Back in March I got a 130 in a 100 on the Hwy 401 by Woodstock, I got a ticket fighter and I was sent this today:
" I have convinced the prosecutor to allow us to plead guilty to another offence called, DISOBEY SIGN, HTA 182-2, 2 points and a total fine of $220.00. The offence will not show on your driving record as to what sign you disobeyed i.e. speeding."
I've never heard of a Disobey sign before??
I'm thinking I want to get them to go to court because a fine of $220 is a lot.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Edit: When I was pulled over the officer claimed it was a airplane that tracked me going 130, would that make it easier to fight?

airplane or not. if the officer shows you're dinged from my understanding.

So what should I do? Take their offer or take my chances at court?

From my experience I would have the guy fight it. He seems to be trying to get a quick fix and get paid for his services without having to spend time waiting in a court room.

I had that thought too, cause I have to pay the $220.00 on top of what I pay him.

If you bring it to the trial, will the prosecutor use your original offense (speeding 130 over 100), or you are basically only fighting the ticket that's has no points or record involved.

From what I understand it's the original offense. Because the Disobeying sign, is an alternative thats 2 points and $220.

Is your choice, now it is about 220$ compare to take a risk to lose the trial and have a speeding record and raise in insurance for the next few yrs.

Question for you guys... I got the same violation as well but I notice on my ticket that the officer miss wrote my driver license number. Everything else seems correct except for that. I went to get a trial date anyway and I was advised that they would mail out a notice of my trial date. Well... its been almost 2 months and still haven't seen a letter.
Should I call them to follow up? or just forget it and not worried about it?
Thanks

Even if you are charged with this $220 + 2 points your insurance is still going to go up. :S
I would say fight it if the person feels they are semi confident with winning.

They might discard your ticket becauce they don't have any evident you're the driver or you can said that to the judge when you go to the trial. It's happen to me for a long time (a few year back) which they never sent out the trial date because they wrote the wrong information in the ticket.

I would say fight it, my friend is fighting the same ticket right now.
He got 130 on the 406 by welland. From what he was told the cop that pulled you over, AND the officer that was flying the plane both have to show in court, and he has to say that your vehicle is the one he saw.
I got a dangerous driving ticket reduced to "driving in an unmarked lane" when I fell asleep and rolled my car.

+1. I think they will throw the ticket because they got the wrong plate number down, but I could be mistaken...
I'm also waiting for my court date for my speeding ticket back in November '08... stiiiiiill waiting....
If the "DISOBEY SIGN, HTA 182-2" will not appear on your driving record/insurance record, I would say go for it. Afterall, isn't it the whole point of hiring a ticket fighter?
I personally wouldn't hire anyone and just go to the trail myself just because the ticket is not "severe" enough. :)
