View Full Version : Rear brake issue

Well I thought it was going to be an end of the season without an issue with the car but I guessed wrong. My rear drivers side brake seems to be sticking. The disc is hot after a drive (as in spit quickly boils off it) and it squeeks when I leave the car in park and the car settles. The passenger side brake squeeks occasionally as well.

I really don't want to spend any money as I'm offically buying my first home within 8 days!!! (hence my absence on the forum more recently).

I'm taking it to the dealer and dropping it off tomorrow morning. I'm hoping my diagnosis is correct and its just a sticking pad. I really don't want to replace the brake pads or discs since they've only been on the car for 35,000km and should last double that. Ahh well. Hopefully its sub $300 repair if not I am going to lose it. :whoa

SUMMARY :blah BEFORE TAKING THE CAR IN:

- Left rear disc is hot after a drive.
- Wear seems okay shouldn't need replacing.
- Parking brake doesn't seem stuck.
- Right rear brake does the same thing once in a while but not to this extent.

...my belief is that the wet weather brought this on as I haven't noticed it before. Keep me in your prayers that its an easy fix.

Cheers!

sorry, you're SOL... you'll have to replace it or rebuild it

Well $470 later. Parking brake cable replaced. The rear pads and rotors touched up and the calipers lubed.

Doesn't feel different (hand brake is more "loose" though). I'll check the brakes again tomorrow to see if they're not over heating.

you can always adjust the handbrake yourself if the handle goes up too high

Thanks Adam, I've been busy lately as I mentioned I've got a home closing in less than a week and I haven't had the time to "do it myself" aka call you for a fix. The brakes were extremely hot and I just wanted them fixed. I'll keep it in mind.

At one point or another, I'd like to take a look at the trailing arms with you. The dealer told me they would need replacing next year (a $700 job). I want your opinion and also see if maybe just need new bushings.
