Hi all, I would appreciate some help.
The check engine light is on and the dealer checked it with these results (and charged $98 plus tax!):
MIL CHECK CODE: P0131; P0134; 02251 - FRONT O2
SENSOR NO SIGNAL, RECOMMEND TO REPLACE,
$424.0 PLUS TAX
PART# LFL7-18-8G1C -O2 SENSOR
should I get the sensor replaced? It costs $424!!!
any advice is appreciated, thanks!

1. Yes, you should replace it
2. You can buy the 02 sensor onlinefor $86USD plus shipping, taxes, exchange etc.

You could probably get a similar price for one of the TM3 affilicate dealers. Or try Cdn Tire
3. Get Street Performance or another of the TM3 recommended mechanics to put in on... I should think an hours labour at worst (someone please confirm, shop manual is at home, so don't know how deep the O2 sensor is buried). Call it a hundred bucks for the labour
Total price ~200 to replace it.
BTW: most dealers will credit you with the diagnostic charge if you get the car fixed there... probably still more expensive than and independent mechanic.

you definitely want to replace it... not replacing it will fail e-test and will ruin the cat which will cost you thousands more to fix later!
the O2 sensor is in the exhaust manifold... buried between the firewall and exhaust... they usually seize up so it's not that easy to do!

Access to o2 sensor is pretty good :)
Sensors on EBAY .. are available don't get universal one ... They never work properly you need to splice cables ...
150$ Replaced...

You can get direct fit o2 sensors which don't require splicing. You don't need to buy OEM. AC Delco, Denso, Bosch, Replacement, etc.

Never go to the dealership to get a "diagnostic" done. They are theives when it comes to that. Its a matter of getting someone who owns (like myself) an oBD2 reader and have it scanned for free. Just my .02

I just use www.rockauto.com to find part #'s and price ideas.
Check this: It looks better if you just go online and see for yourself.
I was using my car though 2.0 - 2007:headbang

Part number LFL7 18 8GIC part only just replaced at non-dealer (local shop) $276.48 for part .6 hours install ($40.80).
I contacted Mazda in my local area Waterloo they wanted same price for part, plus $100 to install 1 hour and 99 fee for checking the ODBII code.
I purchased a code reader off ebay for $50 and used it on several cars now.
I told Mazda I would not pay for a diagnostic fee since I knew the issue. He highly recommended I pay it. What a joke $100 for a test. I'm sure sometimes it maybe worth it, however, this was not one.
I'm not sure if the $400+ quoted at the beginning of the thread was for part labour and taxes.
I tried to find the part myself but the code LFL7-18-8GIC I think might be a Mazda internal number, hopefully someone can clarify that for me.
I believe the 18 means 18 inch cable, again just guessing based on my brief looking around.
Mine died exactly 2000KM out of Bumper to bumper warranty.
Curious when yours died. I drove it for 35,000km this year and when it turned over 82000km boom died. Ironically right after I said its out of warranty some part will fail.
