Apparently, the owner had a regular oil change that day... There was only one problem in her car prior to bringing it to the dealership. AC was not putting out cold air.
If you dont know, its a chipmunk/ squirell lodged in the belt near the ac pump. It even had traces of food around the engine bay and naw marks.
The customers where there and boy they were shocked!!

Last week it was chilly, so my guess the squirell / rat found a warm place to stay. he probably was sleeping when the car started... the belt must have been off when it rode across the wheel lol!

George's mom had the same story on the Geologic Podcast (http://www.geologicpodcast.com/index.php?post_id=519945). Just listened to the story on Saturday. Weird coincidence.

we had a similar problem at my work a few weeks back.
only the animal was slightly larger, and the customer was complaining of a smell thats been getting worse during the week.
i believe it was a cadillac SRX, and a muskrat or something similar.
the smell was death. the tech working on it threw up halfway thru the job.
i tihnk we charged the guy like, 5 hours or something cuz it was just so bad.

so whats the protocol in a situation like this? do mechanics draw straws to see who gets the short one and bites the bullet on removing this poor lil guy?

<sarcasm>Whatever you do, don't click on the link provided. I wouldn't want to turn you on to something new or interesting.</sarcasm>
I'm surprised more people aren't familiar with dead animals in the engine bay. When I was a kid, and cars still commonly had belt driven fans rather than electric, and people still used block heaters, this happened all the time. Plug your car in overnight and the stray cats in the neighbourhood would crawl into you engine compartment and sleep on the nice warm engine. Come out in the morning and crank the engine and startle the cat, right into the fan...

at my work, every tech has a number, if you're number is up, you're getting the next job. whether it be an alignment, a brake check, or something big.
however, if the job is under 1.0 unit of labour (i tihnk), your number stays at the top.

That's so wrong, guy. I can't believe you would say that. I'm not hungry 24/7... it's more like 20/7 (I gotta sleep too you know) :chuckle
But still, this issue is sad and gross at the same time......

This reminds me of one of my co-workers who drove down to attend a meeting at what used to be the Rogers Wireless head office on Bloor/Mt. Pleasant street downtown and parked in an underground parking area near the office. It was in the middle of winter.
He was driving an older model Land Rover and after the meeting, he went to his vehicle and his truck started, but then he heard a loud whine and knock noise and then shortly after, the engine conked out on him. He had it towed to the mechanic and turns out he had a 5 or 6lb rat caught up in one of his engine belts (Can't remember which belt). I guess the rat was a little cold and the engine was a nice and warm place to nest for a few hours.
P.S.- Squirrels are basically rats with bushy tails. No sympathy on this end.

sadly enough, it's not that uncommon.
I once found a nest of field mice (babies - nweborn without fur) in a glove box. They have made the box of kleenex a nest. It was really disturbing for me - only because i really dislike rodents!
rodents often hide in engine bays to stay warm - and unfortunately, they often cause damage too.
Thank goodness i wasn't working on saturday, i would have been grossed out all day!
