came on for the second time since I got the car brand new in 2007. First time was the gas cap, no big deal. I'll be taking the car tomorrow to the dealer and see what's up, I only have an SRI and had that for 5 months now and everything works fine until the engine light came on this afternoon. Funny thing is the car is driving like nothing is wrong with it!!

Yesterday I gave the car gas as it was running low. This morning started the car and the engine check light was off. Still taking it in to the dealer, and check if the fuel cap is to blame, maybe it needs to be replaced? I know everytime I put the gas cap back on I turn it a few times........I guess when I take it in we see the reason!!!

Is your intake on tightly at the throttle body? I had a similar situation before and it was loose there causing the car to give "system running too lean"

Is your dealer mod friendly? I ask as they may take one look at the intake, blame that by default and then tell you they want $120.00 just to diagnose and that if it is the intake, they won't cover it and deny you warranty.

They cant deny warranty work on account of a Mazdaspeed accessory part. If the intake was not installed by a Mazda dealer they won't directly warranty the intake its self, but none of the other warranty is affected by Mazdaspeed accessories.

The issue is a check engine light.
Actually, yes they can deny warranty coverage and diagnosis. Several of the mazdaspeed accessories carry no warranty whatsoever, whether installed by Mazda or not. The intake is classified as an 'orange' accessory part and as per Mazda are sold "as is without warranty of any kind...and purchaser shall be responsible for and bear all costs of repair or replacement due to any defect in or failures of these parts or any damage to other components. Furthermore, purchaser acknowledges that vehicles equipped with Mazdaspeed 'Orange' Performance accessories shall not be operated on public highways..."
There is a lot more verbiage apart from what I have listed here and even includes verbiage that excludes Mazda from covering the warranty on the actual installation of the part itself.
All this said, I'm not saying that the dealer can deny the overall warranty because they have an intake installed. However, they very may well look at the car, see he has an intake installed and deny him warranty coverage to diagnose the check engine light problem for free, because he has an intake installed... If it turns out not to be the intake, than obviously, they will reimburse, or should reimburse the diagnostic fee. However, if it is the result of the intake, than he is probably shit out of luck unless he has a mod friendly dealership and a very nice service advisor.
BTW- I am not saying this is right, just that it is how the 'system' works more times than not...

^^ Generic reason for code for p2187 is system too lean at idle. The mazda6 guys say it's Fuel/temp sensor B circut low input see here. (http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=87802) This says lean condition on bank 1 see here (http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1wjp0-obd-ii-code-p2187-mazda-3-2006). I suspect they just updated your fuel maps.
