Automatic or manual? If it's an automatic... is it in Park or Neutral?

Not that anything like that has ever happened to me....

Batteries CAN die just like that.... they can internally short, and thats it. They will still hold 12V, but can have absolutely no cranking power.

Chance are either your battery or alternator, or even both, are now dead.

ok guys so heres the thing lol .... i went outside this morning hoping that my car would start and for some reason it did ? i had to hold the key to the one positon for a good 4 seconds but then it turned on? and over the course of a hour i turned it off and on 5 times and it came on perfectly fine? by the way i have a standard. i have no clue what caused this i just dont want it happening again. i was lucky this time that it happend in front of my house and not out in the middle of no where.

do you have an intake?
I had that problem before and was towed maybe 3-4 times. They replaced the starter relay and it happened again.. then found out it was the maf sensor wires loose. My shop cut them up and reconnected them again and then problem was gone.

yea i have an intake... but if it had to do with the maf sensor wouldnt the engine even try to crank over?

OR it could be the starter and is about to go. Is the starter still stock? If it happens again, try kick starting the car and see if it starts. Have a buddy push the car while your inside the car, turn the ignition on, put on 2nd gear, depress the clutch and when you finally get the car rolling good, release the clutch slowly like you would when changing gears and the car should start. If it starts, you definitely got a bad starter. Either replace the starter OR clean the terminals of the starter.

It might be the fuel pump --- there has been issues where u have to prime the fuel pump by putting it in the on position 2 -3 times before cranking.

It seems relatively straight forward but the pictures seem pretty weak to say the least

I would love to see where the starter sits as i am not sure where it is exactly but i am sure it shouldnt be to hard to do i would have to get a closer look at it. thbose pics in the bulletin are very vague

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I have a 05 GT. Dealership and my own mechanic had no idea what it was so I had to figure it out. Check out this thread:

No problems ever since I got the repair done.

Print off the TSB and take it in with you to give to the service dept.

just my newbie 2 cents and I apologize for posting so late in the game but I have experienced this a few times and usually in the morning. I find that if the clutch is not "completely" to the floor the car wont start. It happens in the morning because im usually getting in the car 15mins after waking up and still not quite awake ..:chuckle. I know this is a safety feature but it's a little annoying at times

I wouldn't be the clutch as that is a safety feature and if not pressed down properly the car will not start. If I am not mstaken the op had an auto which would either lead to a starter wire or the actual nuetral safety switch itself but I doubt I'd be a nuetral safety as that wouldn't even allow you out of gear but would let you start the car

I had this exact problem and had to do research myself and had to order the part myself and instruct the dealership what to repair. Since then I have had no issues at all.

i totally forgot that i made this thread last year. ok so i got this fixed last year i was around $50 i think it might have been a bit more for parts and labour at mazda. The problem has stopped and havent had any issues with the car starting since the repair :)

there is a tsb that a member posted near the beggining of the thread. its a bad connection to the starter.
