Well my cars check engine light came on while I was in Algonquin park this weekend. I was able to get it home but if I come to a stop for too long it will die.

Any help would be appreciated? I'm hoping this would be covered by the power train warranty?

check the throttle body for carbon build up... it may cause it to get stuck and make the engine stall... clean it anyway just in case

if it persists, have the dealer flash the ECU to the newest version as it's supposed to have countermeasures in the programming to keep that from happening

if it still doesn't fix it, then a throttle body replacement is in order

THIS IS ALL ASSUMING YOU HAVE A BONE STOCK PREVIOUSLY TROUBLE FREE CAR AND NO OTHER UNDERLYING ISSUES

Car is almost stock, only mods are HIDs and the independent fog mod. Car was problem free until Sunday afternoon. I drove all through Algonquin park but then when we went to go to dinner Sunday the light came on. The stalling issue didn't start until the drive home on Monday.

Should I take this to my regular mechanic? or should this be something I bring it into MOT for?

Thanks for the advice,
Jeremy

If your car is under warranty, take it to MoT, even though I hate their service with a fiery passion, its better to get shit replaced free than not.

If its out of warranty, go to a shop.

It's still under the 5 year powertrain warranty until May of 2010? So I'm really hoping this will be covered by that?

I can see why you're not a fan of their service department. I've called twice already and left a message and still no one answers or returns calls. Just gets sent to voicemail every time.

you don't HAVE to go to MoT
there's other good choices like avante or DWM

When was the last time your air filter was changed? Doubtful its fuel filter. Dirty filter will still run at higher rpm, but will stall at low rpm's

Given where I live my options for Mazda is MOT, Downtown Mazda or Westowne. So I went this time to MOT. We shall see how it goes, if not well I doubt I will bring the car to any Mazda dealer again.

all dealers are not equal
one bad dealer experience should not preclude you from going to a different one

Oh, my car had a similar problem. As soon as I was about to stop at the traffic lights (if I press on the brakes), the car would stall and die. Or sometimes, it would just stall for no reason while I am driving. I was afraid to actually use my car for a bit because of this problem.

I had taken it to Karen at Agincourt Mazda when it gave out a code and she ended up having her team replace my spark plugs as they were soaked in oil or grease or something (I can't remember) and the mechanics who serviced my car prior to me buying it and taking it to Agincourt Mazda put in the wrong type of spark plugs so Karen changed it back to the OEM setup as it also kept misfiring. She also had her team clean my engine bay, AND clean the car's throttle body.

No more stalling for me :)

Well it's fixed, was codes P2187 and P0455, lean on bank 1 and purge valve stuck open. Wasn't too bad, not covered under warranty but was $350 after everything.
