So who actually has plans to take advantage of this when it happens? I've been mulling over little gadgets here and there, but how about the rest of you? Car parts? Cars? Electronics? Services?

Even with the Canadian dollar at par, I still can't afford this...

I have to get my passport so I can try and save a little more by going over and grabbing some stuff. Nothing in mind yet but I'm sure there will be something soon. :)

Well yes,

i saved about 800 on my deck, i saveed about 150 on speakers

and i bought my sister some uggs, saved 110 and got her a kenneth cole jacket for 100usd which would have been probably over 200 here...

I plan to support our economy. Being jobless for a while really sucked, so why make the situation worse? Just my feeling, and I don't blame anyone for the cross border shopping. If saving yourself $$ is important to you, by all means do it!
Myself, I'll support my local industry first. (I'm honeslty not ripping into anyone, just giving my 2 cents)

Agreed. As long as the price is not ridiculously higher in Canada for a certain item then I'm all for supporting the local economy. Even if a lot of retail stores here are now owned by US conglomerates, there are still Canadians working at those stores and those conglomerates do pay (some) tax to our government.

So I'll buy local as long as I don't feel I am getting gouged.

Also, going to the US to buy something does not always pay off, especially if you need to get it serviced under warranty.

Got some new Hankook tires for $450 CAN installed in New York compared to just $1200 for the tires here in Canada. Rest of the stuff is not really cheaper in the US. I went to a Mall there and in the guess store, pants were $110 US plus 8% tax and yesterday at Yorkdale, same pants were $59.99 not even on sale. Hollistar Polo short was 2 for $29.99 in the US and yesterday, I saw 2 for $24.99 in Yorkdale, you tell me whats cheaper.
