Not sure if this is an issue, or this is normal, but maybe you guys can help me out...

I've got an 09 Sport, and when I plug in an audio device to my AUX and charge it at the same time, I get all kinds of hiss and static.

I've tried this with an ipod, a blackberry and an iphone - all did the same thing. Is this normal? You can't charge and play and external device at the same time?

Buy a ground loop isolator. You can get it on ebay or crutchfield.com. This will filter that noise (or whine) that you are experiencing. Basically you plug the GLI into the AUX and your stereo cable into the GLI.

Thanks for the tip... but just to make sure - I don't have any noise if the power is not plugged in - I only have this problem if the device is also being charged...

Will a ground loop isolator still correct that issue?

It's normal. See link.

Yes, a ground loop isolator will help.

+1 for ground loop isolator.

This isn't only an issue for the stock aux port. If you are running an auxmod or PIE adapter on an older 3, the GLI will help as well (that's what I am running)

Thanks for all the replies... what I don't get though, is that if Mazda is aware of the problem - does that not mean it's a wiring issue? Why should I have to spend any money for something that Mazda built incorrectly?

It's not really a Mazda problem. It is electrical interference (noise) which is inherent throughout and is not a wiring problem as such. It actually has more to do with the device you are charging and the device hooked up to the AUX jack. The iPOD integration kit for example comes with an integrated ground loop isolator to minimize interference noise. You have a lot of electrical systems and grounding points throughout the car, and interference noise on this type of set-up is almost inevitable.

An older thread I know, but just in case someone is still looking. I had problems with interference with every AUX/power unit I tried for hooking up my iPod while charging it. Eventually bought this ground loop isolator. The difference in phenomenal. Completely fixed it!
