I'm planning to mod my Nintendo Wii but no idea where to start
Are there different mods (chip vs re-program) and how much dies it normally cost?
Getting tired of paying 60/game for something Ill play for about a week before I get bored of it again.
Obviously Im hitting up a certain cultural mall in the Markham area - just need some knowledge before walking in and paying double

Try looking into mad-modz (mad-mods) cant recall, they have a site, and they are in markham you want to speak with Duke, they been moding consoles for the last 7-8 years.. wicked service.. I have mine modded, but i forgot which chip i got, most good chips can be re flashed.
cost is no more than 80 bucks for a good chip.. dont cheap out, get one of the good brands.

Is there a mod like this similar for the PS3?

Don't pay for a softmod, you can do it yourself.
For a hardware mod, Drivekey works well. I went to a place in that "certain cultural mall" called J-concept. They opened a sealed, new Wii and did the work while you watch. No problems yet.

Softmod FTW.
We just download all of our games and run them off a 2.5" WD external. No burning, etc. We have saved a lot of $ already. I will never buy a Wii game again as it's a dying system anyway.
Xbox 360 FTMFW! :)

+1 for Mazd-Modz & Duke. They did my 360, & several of my friends consoles. Great service, and can't beat the price of games post mod.

+2 for mad-mods, Duke, and his service. I did my 360 & Wii at his house in Mississauga before he got his own store. My friend did his 360 there also.
Cool. I wasn't aware of the softmod for Wii! My Wii has been sleeping for a while now. Maybe that softmod could revive it!
Got a project for the weekend now! Does it work with all sofware? should I update to the latest Wii sofware first?
Thanks for the link!

just to note, when my friend did his wii with the softmod, he did it in 6minutes...please don't pay someone else to do it for you, its very straight forward..
Same with the xbox, if you can spend $60 paying someone to do it, just buy the sata card for $20 (the guy at tigerdirect even let me open the box to make sure the card had the right chipset on it), it can be tedious, but it feels good when you do something on your own and see it work.

From what I understand DO NOT update to latest software.

+1. I think you have to down grade if you have.
Plus you need to make sure to run wii brickblocker on most of the games downloaded just to be safe.
I went to high school with the guy who started mad modz/g-modz
Even if the .rar file says 4.0? I'm just curious as I'm assuming I'm on v3.*
Is there a link where I can read up on that softmod?
