My check engine light is on and my battery light comes on when driving but NOT under power just coasting. Once I give it gas (or even stopped) the battery light goes off, the check engine stays on.

I have a CAI, I guess I should check the sensor but it has been on for 2 yrs with no issue....

My guess is a new battery but what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

So I got under the hood this morning and the filter on my CAI was off. I have a F5. The bolt connecting the CAI to the frame was broken off and worn down smooth! The filter must have worked its way off.... I think that this is actually a common problem with the support bracket.

Q: Now that the filter is back on will the check engine light reset itself or do I have to go to the dealer for that?

I'm assuming that there is no major engine damage as I was only running with the light on for about 30 km?

Some CEL's turn themselves off after a pre determined number of on/off cycles without the root issue continuing, not sure if this is on though.

You can always reset it yourself by disconnecting the battery for a few mins, or you can have someone with a code reader read it and clear it.

If you're in Brampton, let me know, I can do that for you.

Thanks Pat... I sent you a PM. I'm Downtown but don't mind coming to Brampton.

+1 on yanking the (-) connection for a few minutes. If that doesn't reset it then definitely get it read. It should though. I'm sure it's just a MAF error because of airflow, etc. Hopefully it isn't anything more than that.

Thanks Ryan... I'll pull the connection first and see how that goes.

Cheers!

I pulled the connection to the battery and the check engine is now off. I'll keep my eye on it. Thanks guys!

I had the same prob with the CEL and the Battery light but a lil opposite, the CEL stayed turned on and the battery light only went on when I gave some gas.

took it to parts source as they can do a computer check with a OBD reader for free and tell you what the problem is, it told me MAF sensor, I am running a F5 as well, I told the guy to clear the code, went home looked at the CAI and it was loose at the throttle body.
tightened it and cleaned out the MAF sensor, NO lights ever since.

I believe the lights only come on to tell you that you are a dum ass and didn't tighten the CAI properly and that there is stray air going straight into the Throttle body. LOL...

k thats that.

Agreed... lucky. I also replaced the clamp holding the filter as it was corroded pretty bad... I'm going to blame it on the corrosion and not my lack of intelligence :) lol!
