View Full Version : Missing Digital Camera

If anyone here, or someone they know is missing a digital camera, please contact me by either PM or email.

I found a digital camera in the parking lot of the First Markham Place Cineplex Odeon approximately 2 or 3 weeks ago, on a Sunday. I still have it and have been canvasing all the businesses in the area but so far no one has reported it.

I'm very confident that the owner drives a white Dodge Magnum with nice rims and black tints because that is the car that was parked next to me when I went into the movies.

I guess this is a great way to see if "Six Degrees of Separation" really works.

So please, ask your friends and family, and ask them to ask their friends and family. I want to get this camera back to the family it belongs to as soon as possible.

Please feel free to repost this, or post a link to it on any other message boards you are a member of, or facebook, twitter, etc.
(I would have posted this sooner, but this is the first time I've been around long enough to use my computer.)

I will update this thread once the camera has been returned.

Thanks for your help and time.

Wow, what a nice person. Thats very kind of you to go through all this trouble to give someone back their camera. Good stuff

laksman91: I have looked at a couple photo's on the camera. I'm going to assume that the people I saw in those photo's are the family.
I feel weird looking at even the first two because it's not my camera and I don't know these people, but I just want to make sure it gets back to the rightful owners. I'm sure there are lots of irreplaceable memories on this camera and I know I'd want someone to do the same for me if I was in their shoes.

I know its a long shot but if they registered the camera with the manufacturer (which some people do for warranty sake) you can contact them and give the serial number and say was this camera registered and if so please contact the person that registered it and have them call you to claim it.

try posting a photo taken by the camera.. someone may recognize the people in it.

while that may help to locate the owner of the camera, it would also be an invasion of privacy (i.e. they may not want their picture posted on-line).

To the OP: you are building yourself a lot of good karma by doing this...it's nice to know people still care. Cheers to you.

That's why I don't even want to go through the camera to see if I recognize anyone or anything. I really want to post a pic, but I never could, it just wouldn't be right.

Heh, thanks. What can I say, I'm just a big ol' teddy bear lol.

Why not just turn it into the local police department? I work for the police and I can tell you that the "loser" has more of chance to recover his/her property. You don't know how many call we get in regards to lost property. All they would need is a description/serial number to claim it.

Not sure about other forces, but if the property is not claimed within a certain prescribed time, the finder is usually able to claim it. You would be the owner of a digital camera and sleep well at night knowing you tried.

Regardless of what you decide, we do need more honest people like you. It's not everyday I hear a story like this one.

P.

Additional info: If the "loser" has made a police report, once you bring it in they will be able to check the serial number against all reports outstanding and match it up to the rightful owner.

true if the "loser" does go to the police pending value of camera...... if not it's off to auction

Like I said, if it's not claimed by the "loser"...the finder gets to claim it. If neither of them show up...it will go to auction if it's worth anything. If they don't want it....why not sell it? The cash goes to programs to protect/better the city.

I've taken tons of calls for reports for "2 silver keys on a keychain". If my camera cost me $200.00 or $2000.00, I would still file a report. Worst case, the person that finds it isn't as nice as the OP and I haven't lost anything. All I've done is better my chances of getting my camera back.

Actually, as soon as I found it I was very tempted to go to the police department and ask if they could use facial recognition software, like you see on CSI. The software does exist, but I'm very doubtful that the local pd has the kind of money to purchase it heh.

I am going to swing by local pd on my way out tonight and ask if anyone has reported a missing camera. I have a feeling that the owners may not have the serial number though :(. I called the manufacturer earlier today and they have not registered the camera.

I will continue to solicit until I find the owners. I have plenty of digi cams and slr's and camcorders at my disposal that I don't need another lol. I would hate to see it go to auction — because, I reluctantly looked at two more photos on the camera, and now I'm 100% positive they will want this back.

I don't want to nag, but if people could send around emails at their places of work, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much for all your help everyone!

Most people would be like sweet new digital cam , but props for doing the right thing.. also did you check with Cineplex to see if anyone showed up looking for one?

LOL! I did go back to cineplex a day or so later and asked if anyone had come by looking, I left them with contact information but no one has called. I've gone back once more since then and they said no one had come looking. But I'm going to go back tomorrow or thurs and tell them that I lost a camera and see what they say. I'm starting to think that maybe they didn't update their lost and found log, or the paper I wrote it all down on got lost :(.

LOL! I couldn't do that, I'd feel bad. I could however Rick-Roll the whole TM3 community and not feel bad because Rick Astley is just plain funny lol.
That's about the extent of my meanness lol. But don't worry, I won't. :)

Shot in the dark, but I remember reading about this site one time, but you can always try this:

http://ifoundyourcamera.blogspot.com/

I know you said you didn't want to look through the pictures but if it helps reunite the owner with the camera, maybe its worth it? Or you can just turn it into a police station as suggested above. Nonetheless, good for you for being honest.

Even if all this effort is cuz the pictures on the camera are all hot chicks and your plan is to become BFF with the hot owner of this camera... and all her hot friends.

Chances are if they were looking for the camera they would have gone back into the theatre and asked them. Might be too late now, but you could always call the theatre and let them know if anyone asks that you've found it... either way that's nice of you to try to find the owner. But if there are some racy photos on there, they might not feel comfortable claiming it's theirs to a complete stranger :chuckle

LOL... hahahahahahaha soo wicked! However its amazing to see someone like this go through soo much trouble to get this camera back to the original owner.. so with that good for you. Hey if you see the car again maybe you can talk to them. Im sure a white Magnum with some nice rims isn't too common. Unless its an out of state plate in which case... well they aren't going to get it back. But good luck and hopefully it gets returned.

what do you care?...you wouldn't have given it back either way...:P...lol...

on topic, there's this article in gizmodo about how a guy takes pics of himself holding up placards stating "I guess you've found my camera", along with following placards with the guys contact info...I guess putting a face to the lost item helps the "finder" feel sympathy for the one who lost the camera...

but on your point MPS, if you do it with your 5D, you better get someone better looking...ie. a woman...to hold up the placard to ensure its return...false promises of sex offers might even sweeten the deal...lol...
