So I was at Starbucks this morning to work (yes I'm working on Sunday) and I ordered a latte and was 1 cent short and they accepted it with no problem. I did the same thing last night while at shoppers buying something and was again 1 cent short but they did not accept it. Somehow, I feel guilty and take the plunge of extra cents in my pocket. Have you experienced the same guilt? I don't have any intention of being cheap but sometimes, that 1 or even 2 cents does it really make a difference? Thoughts/Opinions?

haha no I don't smoke. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing. Sometimes, I just don't want to justify all the change in my pocket but a card holder only would solve everything of course.

Had to ask, cause sometimes that shit will do that to you...:)
I never keep change in my pockets other than toonies and loonies and even then I usually put them in the car and not carry them around. I can't believe that Shoppers refused to accept your payment for 1 cent. They usually have a small change jar or something for stuff like that. Oh well...

This shoppers I was at somehow did not and gave me a huge "SORRY 1 cent short " response. Regardless, Starbucks did not mind and I asked in a polite manner as well.

Guys, keep in mind the willingness to overlook a few cents also depends on how much the till is allowed to be out, which in turn depends on the individual store management/owner. It is entirely likely that the person running the till will need to make up the difference out of his/her own pocket.

Well those are whole pennies, right? I'm just talking about fractions of a penny here. But we do it from a much bigger tray and we do it a couple a million times. Sorry I had to.
I hate when I pay for something with a toonie that's $1.01 or $1.51 and they hand me back a handful of change instead of 2 quarters or a loonie back. Grrr!

Here is the thing though, would you rather have a handful of change or have the item you paid for rounded up to the nearest dollar?

I hate pennies. I usually collect them and put them in a water bottle for storage.

My co-worker did that and brought ten thousand pennies to Metro where they had those coin exchange for cash machines and ended up getting 10 bucks.

I have a huge jar filled with pennies, but i took them to the bank and they were like "yeah you need to roll those up and then we can accept them"... BUT.... you have to PAY for the rolls.... so im like... wtf?!?! basically lose 1/4 of my pennies just paying for the coin rolls.... FTL!

True they do offer that thing... but you get charged a percentage as well... so your technically losing...money to get money...

as for them taking less a few pennies... they are right its really depends on the float but most cases they will allow it to happen... and then again some people are realyl bad with that.
At my resturant if someone is short money i would still give them their food..

If people are genuinely short, I would take it. When I used to work at A&W, I would see kids come in, with multiple 20 bills in their hands. Then they're like I'm short a quarter or some other nonsense like that. Well buddy, I see that you have the money, so fork it over. If this is too expensive for you, McDonald's is across the street.

Omfg, I'm a sneaker collector myself, and I HATE people that do shit like that. Like, we talk via pm, come to an agreement on pricing; and then, when I go to meet up, they ATTEMPT to bargain more.

LOL, i guess we know that we can get $5 off all purchases from Peter in the future hahah
Well, i use credit card. This eliminates all this asking for a penny and having to carry change. I love this card, but i hate the bill when it comes

Once, A very long time ago I went to a convenience store, I was a penny short. I took one from the tray and the store owner told me this is only okay once and not to return to the store.. This was up in barrie, Jug city to be exact.

I usually thumb through my change, if I find that lucky penny I give it to them. Otherwise, I just say I don't have it and they let me off. I don't see any problems with coffee shops since I buy coffee all the time there and they know me.
Most of the time, I tell them that I'm one penny short and they're good. The most I got away with is 7 cents. lol.
