So, I have someone working on my car righ now. They were working on a sensor repair in the front left wheel (simply needed to be reconnected) and then changed the front tires. The car was then moved out of the repair area and parked. When they went out to get it again, the key fob didn't respond, the car showed no signs of life. The key will turn one way in the lock, but won't turn the other, and still shows no signs of life when doing so.

I know Mazda mentioned some recall to me a few months ago regarding the front drivers door, so I don't know if that is related. In addition, I know I have heard something about the 2005's being easy to break into if you jiggle the door handle a bit, so maybe that has happened in the past (I haven't owned it since the beginning). Also, the car came back last week from getting four new doors put on it (yay warrenty) so perhaps something occured then, but it had been functioning normally up until now.

Any ideas?

maybe the keyfob needs a battery???

They checked the battery at the shop, and it has a current (the right amount, too). Plus, as of last night I can confirm that the car has excellent range with key fob.

Another bit of information is that the key does in fact work, but it only turns the direction that locks the car (grrr), so the car can be manually locked, but not manually unlocked.

maybe try disconecting the battery..then contect it back up and see if works.

Did you try the other key/fob? They may have damaged the one set...

4 new doors? were they replaced because of rust, not hi jacking the thread,

sounds like they just need to be reprogrammed

use the key to lock/unlock the doors at least... that's what the keyhole in the door is for!

Yep, bubbling on the b-pillers. 4 brand new doors...I was impressed. And by the size of that bill, I think Mazda will have learned its lesson with rust proofing.

As for the problem, I only have one keyfob (the other one hasn't worked since I purchased the car), and that keyfob is fine, as it turns out.

The problem has to do with a recall I wasn't aware about. Apparently there is a problem with the ignition, where sometimes you pull the key out and the chime keeps sounding (thus the ignition still thinks the key is in it). When the guy servicing the car locked the doors, the keyfob would then not work because of the ignition problem. It was my bad luck that the manual lock mechanism was seized. Luckily they kept trying it and it eventually worked. I know its worked before, and I can't see the thing seizing during the few summer months I haven't used it, so I think it might somehow be related to the repair.

The good news is, as long as I pay attention to whether the ignition is malfunctioning (until its fixed), this shouldn't be a problem again.

I had problem with my front passenger door lock a few weeks ago. The door wouldn't unlock , there was minor sign of the door lock indicator was slightly moved...but it just won't open

Brought my car into mazda toronto to have it fixed, they replaced the actuator in the door and it's been working ever since
