coming home from a great day at work i'm driving down martin grove road heading home. i come up to the intersection of martin grove and albion..i'm am in the right lane and in the left lane there is a honda accord. Up ahead my lane is blocked by a stalled TTC bus so of course i would try to beat him to it. i get the green light and i leave the honda at the lights (not racing lol). low and behold when i am going to switch lanes he's right beside me:loco so i slam on the brakes leaving a 30ft. skid mark in the road and im 4 ft from the back of the bus..like seriously this is why i hate toronto drivers..they are pricks to everyone else that drives.

now when i get home i smell burnt tires..thanks ***hole for killing my day.

LOL no comment. *cough* don't be such a Civic driver *cough*

Here's one; southbound 404 or in this case, DVP, just south of 401. Dude's in far left lane, I'm two lanes right of him. Lane between us is open. He's behind me, but in his lane. I signal and make the merge into the middle lane. I hear honking. From him merging into the lane originally between us. He didn't even signal EVER. Fakker. Some domestic POS.

He takes off to the right of me and I catch glimpses of him weaving in and out, ahead, without signaling. *shakes head* where are the fakking OPP when they are REALLY needed.

I used to see somebody with that funky edition VW Golf with the different colour panels weaving in and out of traffic on my way to work a few times a month. One day I saw him all smashed up on the shoulder. Bad drivers get what's coming to them, it's only a matter of time.

Phil, stop racing. You're just pissed you got beat by a civic.

I think some of it has to do with the size of the cars people drive. When I had a MkIII Golf, I'd get "picked on"/"bullied" by other drivers in their bigger cars.

Ugh, just thinking about it makes me so angry :flaming.

You could have let him go ahead when the light turned green and got behind him, no chance of you 2 kissing body parts. the driver wasn't going to let you in front just like you did not want him in front of you...

wow wtf just today i had some jerk off mess with me like that 2!

i was driving n some guy infront was going EXACTLY 50 ( yaya he was doing speed limit yada yada me, speeding, death ) so i pass him ( doing about 60 ) he starts to floor it my lanes about to end as hes comming up in the other lane, so i down shift n blow ahead of him and get into the lane... red light comming up i slow down and stop at the red he slows down very far away and watches the light as its about to go red and guns it past me in the turning lane, i was like k buddys got some where to be. nope. He slams on his breaks and in goes into the middle of the road *only 1 lane on each side*
so hes blocking oncomming taffinc all while going 10 under the speed limit...

i was like wow rly? lucky for him i had to meet my g/f, i would a followed his ass home :@

its like that video where some "city slicker" gets followed by two rednecks in a pickup truck cuz the city slicker cut him off.
after a good 10 minutes, the city slicker gets cornered in a dead end. the red necks pull out a bat at start walking towards the guy, acting all tough.
the city slicker pulls out a gun, takes the rednecks' bat, cam corder, and keys, and drives off, leaving the rednecks stranded.

I LOVE driving in NYC! drag racing down every light in Manhattan and even at ourskirt places like Queens. EVeryone is super impatient and so I am when I'm there. I just gun it whenever I have a chance and weave around lol.

Toronto isn't that bad, you don't have random cars or pedestrian jumping out in front of your car to scam you/let you hit them on purpose.

Courtesy and consideration is 99% lost in Toronto drivers. You commuters probably get this every day; last night heading downtown for dinner on 404 north of 401 where the HOV lane ends, some older fakker in a SUV thinks he's more important than everyone else on the road.

The common rule for merging traffic is to let one car merge in and you proceed, next car merge in behind, etc.

I let the van that happened to be in front of jackass SUV, in front of me, SUV tails him trying to barge in. Eff You.

He starts tailgating me afterwards but when traffic came to a more sudden slow-down, he backs away after almost slamming into me. :AH

Actually drove in Ottawa a couple of days past August found the drivers just as stupid as in TO, just not as aggressive...more docile would be the word lol.

Anyways bad driver story here; Waiting at a red light on William Kitchen to enter kennedy; Big sign saying No turns on Red, guy in an Audi behind me honking like crazy, wants me to go ahead...I ain't moving I've seen way too many serious collisions in that intersection, so I wait for the green....Light turns green I proceed into the right lane heading for the 401 West ramp, I see this guy pull out 2 lanes to my left and know he just wants to get beside me to flip the bird or something so I honk it not allowing him to catch up!...Well he catches up alright as I'm heading onto the ramp and he heads straight up Kennedy...Only problem is he's got a redlight ahead and traffic already in the intersection LOL....I see him Clamp the Binders on and almost loose control of the friggen car LOL ...the guy is sideways, skidding towards the intersection :loco...I just think; "pfft what a moron" and head nonchilantly on my way :chuckle

In this case I would have been constantly checking the rear mirror even if you think your ahead of him. Remember this is how some accidents happen don't ever assume. Or you could have simply signalled as soon as you toke off.

Markham...North York (goddamnit...!) and Toronto...but Toronto is just another major city - it's to be expected.

Coming from a smaller city ( Winnipeg), I find the a good portion of the drivers here to be aggressive and downright rude. My GF made a interesting comment saying that drivers here are like horses at a race track. They are itching to go from the gate, drive with blinders and want to get to finish line.
Markham has their share of bad drivers. Prob b/c the majority of them are immigrants and got their license overseas. IMHO people should be retested if they come from another country as well as anyone that hits the age of 60.

I'd say that your girlfriend is generally right but there are a LOT of slow drivers too who are just as bad if not worse. I will admit...I am agressive in some ways - I love to accelerate and I will take turns/ramps faster than 99% of people - BUT I am extremely courteous and go out of my way to make driving a better experience for people and if the conditions aren't right, then I will be a lot more docile in my driving. Also, signalling...my God, the drivers in Ontario (cops/emergency personnel included) do NOT know how to use their signals. And...the blinders...I like to see where I'm going thank you very much!

As far as licensing goes, the problem is that Canada and a ton of other countries have agreements that allow for the licenses to be interchageable. I don't think that the people should necessarily have to start from a G1, but they should have to take a course (driver's ed. courses should be mandatory...not optional) and have to do a road test(s) to prove that they are competent and able to follow the Canadian road rules.

The age debate is a touchy issue. They do do retests once you hit 80 I believe.

yearoftherat
11-28-2009, 09:33 AM
I see sooo many people not use their turn signals and they feel they can just merge into any lane and expect the driver in the merging lane to basically let them in. Or you get the ones that merge behind you, ride your bumper and expect you to speed up even though you may be doing the speed limit/ following the flow of traffic.
The age thing has always been a touchy thing and that will never change. But I do agree with you that people should take a course and do a road test to prove they are competent/ not competent to drive.

That's a big pet peeve of mine as a driver. I can't stand it when ppl do not signal when they're changing lanes or turning.

Totally unrelated to signaling though, I was on the westbound 401 near Dixie when this guy in a Escalade was tailgating me. This guy was BLINDING me because his lights were HIDs and he's higher. Then he changes lanes into the right lane and pulls up beside me and gives me a dirty look.

The thing that completely pissed me off even more was the fact that he was chatting away on his cell phone (and this was when the cell phone law was in effect).

So he tails me, passes me on the RIGHT, glares at me, all the whilst talking on a cell phone, only to exit at the next exit.

Yes, it's true. There are a lot of ******* drivers out there.
Although they are not limited exclusively to Toronto there seems to be an awfully large concentration of them there, although maybe it's just population density.

Back in high school, a new a guy (a sort of friend) who would do the following:
He would drive in the second-to-right lane, with another driver beside him in the right lane. When the other driver was coming up to a parked car/bus whatever, the guy I knew would slow down (but not stop) to indicate he'd let the other guy in. When the other guy started to speed up to get into the lane, the guy I knew would GUN IT and zip past him.

The first time I saw this, I yelled "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" He just laughed and said it was a hilarious.

That's another sign of inconsiderate driving on our roads. Morons will drive at the same speed directly beside you in traffic. Buddy, if the car in front of my suddenly does some emergency braking or maneuvering, I need a way out ... and you're gonna get rammed if you're my only way out! I'd rather push a car than slam head-on into one.

Too many people just turn off their brains when they drive. Common sense is gone to sleep too behind the wheel for most.

...The age debate is a touchy issue. They do do retests once you hit 80 I believe.

They do retest them, but not on the road. They just have to do the written test and eye exam every couple of years. Hardly anyone ever fails and hence, they're still out there... They should road test them also. Some are more than capable still, but many are not and should not be on the road. My own grandmother falls into this latter category unfortunately...

Moreover, this is essentially how my Protege got totalled. Old man in an SUV drove right through a solid red light that had been that way for at least 8 seconds. I was under full acceleration and changing into 4th gear when I T-Boned him in the intersection as I had about half a second to react when I saw him. The old man couldn't see that the light was solid red...

not only are most toronto drivers pushy *******s, they are just bad at driving. the one thing that pisses me off is when ppl don't signal. specially if they are changing lanes in front of me.

Ass..

He was tailgating you because you were going slower than he wanted to, and then he passed you on the right. That means there was space for you to move over and let him pass, but you failed to do that. How can he pass you on the left if you wouldn't move over and let him?

He was tailing me because he wanted to go quicker than the 110km/hr that I was going. Sorry if I was too slow.

This is on the 401. Near the Dixie Rd exit..or near the airport. There are PLENTY of lanes to use. I was in the 2nd lane from the right and I think it's a 5-6 lane highway across. So why couldn't he move over to the left and make a pass if there are 2-3 lanes there for him to use?

Walrus, you might want to clarify the situation before accusing people of what they were and weren't doing and insinuating others 'failed" to drive appropriately. :blah

anyways point in case... i do not drive in toronto unless i'm absolutely forced to.
traffic is getting worse by the day in this city and even in the gta... with mass residentialization and poor city planning
doesn't help to have jacka$$ drivers all around too

Correct me if I'm wrong but you were in in the the slower lanes and he should have passed you on the left. He was just in a rush like everyone else on the 401.

while I agree that there are so many ****** drivers in T.O., I still think it's better than most countries. I'm going to Philippines soon and I'm gonna be driving right away when I get there. It makes me appreciate the kind of (*******) drivers we have in Toronto. I know I felt like that the last time.

and b.rabbit... since you said the driver who passed you on the right took the exit at the next exit... I think you should appreciate that... coz you'll be pissed even more if he passed you on the left, and cut you off so he can take the next exit on the right :chuckle

You're correct. I was in one of the slower lanes.

I suppose so, but he had all the time to do so beforehand. However, the thing that really bothered me was giving me a glare while he was talking on the cellphone.

Ah whatever, it was weeks ago. :blah

Too many people just turn off their brains when they drive. Common sense is gone to sleep too behind the wheel for most.

To be fair, most of these morons don't have enough brains to drive in the first place, let alone common sense.

I believe I already ranted about this in another thread, but I'll say it again-- the Ontario graduated licensing system (and I'm sure this applies to the rest of Canada as well) is garbage. Far too lenient. Far too easy for shitty drivers to get a license.

In Europe (not sure everywhere, but certain countries I know for sure) it's much more difficult to get your driver's license. You have to drive A LOT better there, as their standards are more strict, and they test you on a lot more. As it should be. I would say at least 60% of drivers (at least in this area) do not deserve their licenses.

+1
Many drivers don't know how to keep right, even if you're doing the limit, you still have to keep right. Rarely anyone stops for emergency vehicles anymore, esp. in Mississauga where many major roads are 6 lanes.

Worst... Toronto pedestrians 3..2..1..0... and they still start to cross the roads.

Phil.. the accord still had the 'right of way'.
