A thorough, no BS review of the Zenesis ZN-502 (http://www.toronto-subaru-club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1084781)

note that his car was broken into 3 weeks after getting the alarm and the thief popped the hood and killed the power to the main fuse panel, shutting off the alarm and siren .... a good reason to get a backup battery unit.

in the end, not a result of the break-in but other issues, he's paying to have the Zenesis removed and a Compustar put in.

Good review... I was thinking of installing that one...

Time for more research.

Good review. I knew this system was shit when I saw it in PASMAG. What sells it is the keypad and the stick on remote. I never heard of this alarm company in my life, and new that it had to some fancy looking crap. If you want an alarm, go with a well known brand from DEI (Viper, Clifford, Python). They have been in the game for years, and know their shit. Compustar is so-so. Haven't been in the game as long, but im not a big fan.

Ya I was pretty skeptical when I heard about this alarm. I had a viper alarm in my truck quality piece but when the thieves try and disable your alarm they will make a royal mess of your wiring...

to be honest it doesn't matter what alarm brand you have. if someone wants to break in to your car to steal something they can and will.
case in point the same senario happened to myself on my own damn driveway. i had a compustar installed. the thieves knew where my hood pins were and cut my siren, disconnected the battery.
i was lucky in the sense that after they cut my siren (i didn't have a back-up) they let go of the hood pin before disconnecting the battery and it ended up triggering my remote. i was pressing buttons on the remote and my remote went a little nutty. i noticed when i pressed button "iv" for status it wouldn't respond. I thought this was funny so I went downstairs turned on the hallway/door way lights on and heard a car take off. I go out to find that my hood was semi-open and when I went to start the car to chase these people the car wouldn't start.

n-e-way... regardless if you got a viper, compustar, zenesis or whatever real good thieves will break in to your car. i was really lucky bcuz they slipped up. i had my pioneer 6.5" dvd deck in there along with $1600 in the arm rest. don't ask why i left the money in there instead of bringing it in the home.

Since we installed the Zenesis alarm into the car in this review, I feel I must add a little insight on this. First off when his car got broken into it was parked at the GO station all day. They popped his hood and cut the main power wire under the hood to the battery so they could disable the alarm but when they did that the starter kill was engaged so they cut a bunch of wires under the dash. They never got the car so in my opinion the alarm did its job. I know this first hand because I got the call from him when he discovered his car. He does have the first gen remote but Zenesis has fixed the battery issue on the remote. So in my opinion the Zenesis is actually a very good system as have installed many of these units and majority of people are very pleased with their systems. The Z pass works really good which is one of the best features of this system.
