I poked around a little bit and couldn't seem to find the problem so I guess I'll post the question.

The other day I went to wash my car, '06 Sedan, and when I went to inspect the spare tire while filling the rest I noticed that the trunk was soaked.

Does anyone know if the weather stripping around the trunk isn't strong enough to withstand a pressure washer from a distance? I've never had a trunk leak from a washing so I am not sure how to go about this other than not wash my car.

Thanks

Was your car in an accident? I got rear ended and I had a leaking trunk after the body shop fixed it. It took forever to figure out where the water was coming from... I highly doubt its the weather stripping. The way the figured it out they got a guy to sit in the trunk and someone poured water on it to see where the leak was coming from

Assuming there isn't a tear or gap/hole in the weatherstripping, it is just fine to stop water from entering the trunk. Look for tears along the stripping or where it has come loose from the body. Was this car ever in a rear end accident previously?

Go in the trunk while its closed and have a friend dump water all over it on the outside. Make sure the backseat is folded down too you're not actually in the trunk and its easier to move around

There are some vents that are covered by the interior panels. If water is forced up from underneath the car, maybe that's how it got it in?

its a good theory but have never seen it happen before. The biggest thing i have seen is the sunroof drains start leaking or a seal issue if the trunk has been removed and not realigned properly.

Yeah it was in a minor rear end accident. I think it's leaking just above where the jack is I can see drip marks on the access panel to the jack. How did you go about fixing this?

Just discovered mine was leaking tonight too. It's been raining lots, but I've also been to the car wash recently. Wet spot is Driver side near the jack storage. Had a tail light bulb out recently, maybe due to water on a hot bulb, so I'm going to start investigating the sealing around the tail light. No rear end accidents in my case.

the best way to figure out where it is comming from lie down in the tunk with a flashlight and the back seats folded down so you have room to move get a friend or a helper to stand outside with the hose and water it down continuously and you may be able to find where it is comming from

Check your third brake light. Sometimes the seal that holds the light housing in, is not setup right. If thats ok, check where the wires go from your trunk to the car (leftside when trunk is open) ive seen those wire seals pop off aswell

When you took your old light out, did u reuse the rubber seal that was on it?

Assuming you did. Pull it back off and recheck the seal is on nice and tight and take a little self inspection. Mine leaked once, and i removed seal, then put it back on, bolted it back up tight. Then on my left side of the trunk i noticed this rubber hose (with wires inside) has a lip on the end, it popped out of the hole its suppost to sit in, and make a seal. Ever since I tweaked those 2 things i never saw a drop again.

This has been happening to my 05 gt. It has not been in any accidents and i still have not found where the leak is coming from. I think i tryed everything.

i think i may have found where the water is coming from.. same problem as above, water drops near or above the jack storage. its the rubber tube from the trunk lid to the body. as tight as it may look outside water is still getting in there. took it out, clean it, put some clear silicone and reinstall.

when i first got my car in june the trunk was leaking ... and it was also right above the jack storage area. From what i saw the weather stripping came loose and was just hanging there ... it was a good 4 inchs that came out too ... so i grabbed some silicone and shoved the weather stripping back in and sealed it up ...now it doesn't leak anymore lol. maybe check that?
