I figured that some of you who are enthusiasts would get a kick out of this story.

I just got back from a quick trip down to the Carolinas. I threw my road bike in the back of the MS3 and drove down to ride portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

On the way back I decided to jump off Interstate 64 and drive a 2 lane road, Highway 60 in anround the New River Gorge National Park. It had just become completely dark when I exited I64. Very quickly a car pulled in right behind me very fast and tailgating.

Ok...I've owned the MS3 for a few months and aside from a few spirited sessions on short stretches of fun roads I have not really pushed it. This road was unbelievable....tight corners, lots of up and down, perfect pavement and no one in front of me....and some guy pushing me with a car that obviously had some jam.

Over the next 20 km or so I picked up the pace again and again to the point where I was cutting corners across both lanes, WOT on the straights, heavy braking....yes it was irresponsible but there was NO ONE else on the road but me and the guy pushing me....and he continued to do so. I couldn't tell what he was driving because it was so dark and he remained very close to my bumper but it was a bigger car and the guy sure could move it well...he had no trouble keeping up and I was pushing hard!

Finally, we get to a small community with streetlights and I back it right down to below the speed limit. As I pass under the first light I look back and realize, to my complete horror, that it has been a cop the whole time. He is in a Dodge Charger with lights and a bull bar, etc. I am crapping my pants.

Before I know what to do, he flashes his lights, very quickly pulls over and turns his car off.

I don't know if he was just having a little fun, or really wanted to get to that little town but it took me a good 15 minutes to stop hyperventilating!

Cycling the Blue Ridge was amazing but this was probably the highlight of my entire trip!

It took me a bit of time to calm down but once I did, and the road opened back up, I ended up pushing hard again for the last 20 km or so. There was an incredibly tight uphill with a truck lane because it was so steep and the other side going back down was just as steep and tight....come over a rise and feel the car unweight....stay calm until the front wheels load back up to give a little control just before the road ends at the outside of a turn and down a cliff! Really, it took an hour or two on the interstate before the smile lessened.

I have a few cop friends and they are always a lot of fun to drive with because they do seem to be enthusiasts. It was very cool.
