if this came out of a beat up civic i would love it more. but from what his car was (black with the crazy red wheels) i can't say I'm too much of a fan. i love how crazy he is and doesn't care. does what he wants. but i wish he kept it more clean.

If by making it work you mean that the car can barely drive not to mention turn, and the tire burned a hole straight through the flares after driving once...
But how many people on here complain about rubbing because they want to go lower and wider? They don't catch any flames, because they're playing it safe. And more often than not, the solution to rubbing isn't to raise the car back to where it was, but to modify it to make the wheels work, which is exactly what he's doing. Just because he's going way harder and gives way less of a f*** what we think about him doesn't really open him up to criticism in my eyes.
And this isn't his daily driver, it's his project car from what I've heard/read. Why not make it batshit crazy? I think he gets way more hate than he deserves.
In my honest opinion, if he had OEM paint, polished wheels, and didn't post up about his frame "reductions" people would worship the ground this car drove on. Because it's a rattle can paint job and he's chopped it all up, people say it looks terrible. He isn't running demon camber, his stretch barely qualifies as stretch (19" wheels with a 20" step lip, correct me if I'm wrong), and he has the widest flares I have ever seen on a 3. All the while being without a doubt the lowest static car I've ever seen in North America
I really think if people didn't know what he did to get his car setup the way it is now, he'd be revered as a god among us stance folk

If it were a rusty pile purchased from a scrap yard: then yes, maybe it would be cool but when he's coming from the middle picture to this: no it looks terrible. Just based on looms and Setting aside driveability of course.

Buddy cut up his frame
When buddy who doesn't trailer queen his car, gets into an accident with a squirrel and his car explodes because it no longer has any of the original structural integrity, you can go worship at his grave

I've liked previous iteration of his car but it is really just a rolling write off right now. Also his attitude seems to be becoming increasingly more irritating.
However my #1 biggest complaint with his recent iterations is execution. He has a lot of ideas, and no one can take that away from him but his execution is lacking. With it not being his daily driver he could take the time to iron things out a little better but for whatever reason he simply doesn't.
Edit: loki there are plenty of vehicles with cut frames driving on the road today. My truck had a cut frame. I just reinforced it I didn't cut it and pray.

To the first bolded line, that pretty much sums it up for me
To the second bolded line, did you "reinforce it" or was it engineered? The frames of these cars are engineered to behave a certain way, by adding your own "reinforcing" you may think you're helping but in actual fact you haven't achieved anything. I'm not saying this is the case all the time, but just adding some extra steel here and there changes the behaviour of the entire system.
Maybe people are comfortable messing around with their cars because by driving on the ground they feel safe. Imagine if you flew planes, would you just start cutting up the frame of the plane and adding your own "reinforcing"?
I find a similar comparison is those people who remove/cut/modify their crash bars to fit bigger front mounted intercoolers

Hacking and welding is a lot more predictable on a car with a traditional frame, and not on a unibody.
This guy is a hack. The work is junk. I don't get why "doing it yourself" is a good thing, when you have no idea how to do it right.

Had I a bagged it I would have probably built/had built a new back half.
But the car in question didn't do anything which is really scary.
This build is to stance what that 700+ WHP speed from a while back is to the "racecar" folks, it's completely f***ing insane. Neither are daily drivable, both are arguably dangerous on the road, but both are well beyond what most people thought possible with the 3 platform.
As far as the aesthetics (or lack thereof) it's all part of his "design". He's basically "building" a ratrod mazda 3, which I think is cool as hell... mostly because its something no one has considered- let alone done- before

No, this is the equivalent of a Speed3 achieving 700whp with a 550 shot of NOS, where the guy built the NOS canister himself, used straws to direct the NOS into the engine, and instead of injectors used hypodermic needles, had no engine management except for a really cool cockpit style switch marked "ON" and is still running the stock fuel pump

BAHAHHAHA...... Agreed.
To build a 700WHP car, you need to know what you're doing. This guy hacks stuff out of the way. Safety and quality be damned. If the goal is to get low, at any cost, without properly doing something, this guy wins I suppose.

I think you missed my point, all I'm trying to say with that comparison is that both cars are "unsafe" on the road for very different reasons.
Clearly, we all realize he isn't building the car to win car shows... he's just building it for himself. And I think we can all agree he's pushing the platform further than anyone else has with regards to fitment, which is what this thread is all about after all, no?
I'm not sure why everyone is still so up in arms about stuff like this, it's not new. People have been chopping shit out of the way forever to get lower, and now someone does it to a mazda3 and it's the end of the world? He's driven the car slammed safely for five years, how long does he have to keep doing this until people will just sit back and let him do his thing?

I didn't miss your point, your comparison was a poor one
An unsafe care is different to a car potentially being driven in an unsafe manner. There are a few production cars on the roads with 700whp or close to 700whp and it does not mean they aren't safe.
what I fail to understand is why you are defending him. I don't really care about him or his ride, I just think it is strange that you feel the need to justify his actions as if he's doing ground breaking things when it fact it's car breaking things
I wouldn't go as far to say he's been driving safely for 5 years, he just happened to be incident free for 5 years. There's a difference, but maybe you won't understand that either

If this car makes it 5 years with that much metal removed at the height it is I will eat humble pie.

I'm not defending the person, I'm more just trying to defend the way he chooses to modify his car.
The Speed3 chassis wasn't designed to handle 700+ WHP, so yes I would argue that a speed built to put out that kind of power is inherently unsafe on the road as a daily driver, the same way you would argue that us stance folks drive cars that are unsafe on the road. The thing is, neither this car nor the 700+ speeds are daily drivers, the same way most rat rods aren't daily drivers. They're built as project cars, to push boundaries and test limits. I don't understand why you can fully support one but fail to see the merit in the other. Is it because it looks "like shit"? If you didn't know that he notched/cut away parts of his frame would you be so opposed to it?
I stand by my earlier statement. If Kevin didn't run a live blog of his build on instagram and just posted the final product, people would be in awe of his car.
How can you say that he is an unsafe driver if you've never seen him drive outside of a three minute video from Stance Nation? Everyone I know who drives a fitted car is incredibly cautious, because driving in an unsafe manner would literally mean the end of your car. To get by on just pure luck while driving slammed in an unsafe manner for five years seems doubtful to me. Hell, I wasn't even that low and I had to plan out my routes days in advance, on top of watching for reflectors / dips in the road.
I don't know, I'm not trying to be inflammatory or come across as an *******, I just wish people could appreciate when someone puts effort into their car and actually sees their build through, instead of getting to a roadblock half way though and saying "meh its good enough". Again, the car is clearly under construction, give the man a chance to reinforce his frame and dial things in before condemning him and his ride
I said he was driving an unsafe car, as in a car unfit to be on the road. I didn't say he was driving in an unsafe manner.
I like your car GWN and think it looks great but I would hope that you don't intend to hack your car up in the effort to be even lower?!

Haha ok I think we may have finally come to rest at an "agree to disagree" standpoint :D I misread the last sentence of your previous post, or read into it something different than what you meant I suppose!
But thanks, I like your car as well (too fast for me though :complain)
PERHAPS I'VE ALREADY REMOVED MY FRAME AND AM NOW DRIVING SUPPORTED BY ONLY MY HOPES AND DREAMS?!
But no as far as I've gone is hammering my front pinch welds, and even that makes me nervous. I couldn't see myself cutting right through my frame for more lows, which I guess is partially why I'm in awe of this car, he really lives the low life

Went to Righteous Garage and got him to do a base roll and pull on it so I could tweak more at home. I'm trying to run as little camber as possible and sit quarter on wheel lip.
I could pile on the rear camber and probably tuck rim but it would look really, really bad at ride height (in my opinion) which is what I am trying to avoid. Shooting for 2 degrees up front and about 4 in the back (at ride height) with reasonably sound looking quarters and fenders. As I'm sure many of you have put together from my last car cleanliness is paramount in my eyes.
Also have to do some more heating and shape shifting on my fender liner as when I air out it pulls my front fenders slightly out of alignment.
If by the end of all this I don't like how park height and ride height looks I might change them from 9.5s to 9. But we shall see... 9 would allow me to run more tire too should I free up some project money for performance mods.

I trimmed out one of my fender liners at the top when I was on air (turned out it wasn't needed with the tires I had) and realized that in winter, you get a lot of salt and slush thrown up into the tops of the fenders/engine bay without it. Killed one HID ballast that was up there. I've got a new one waiting to go in now.

Simply put, it's ugly. The fender area where it is missing looks very unfinished and unbecoming. Also as Aitch said all sorts of crap can get flung around. Ryan ended up with some rocks in there that pushed his fender out.
No beuno.
Aitch I am considering sectioning mine out. Remove some for summer, replace in the winter. Basically just the top portion would be gone for maximum aired out ness.
I took my liners in the rear of my speed out for a bit, but it exposes the fuel pump on the rear right side. I believe it's the fuel pump
Either way there is some piece of equipment back there that I was not that comfortable having exposed

Yeah that should be possible. The portion I cut out had a few of its own retaining clips so you'd be able to clip it back in. Might want an extra bit of rubber stripping or something along the edges to help seal it back up.

Though in terms of fitment, if the fronts were just pushed out a liiiitle more, would really have hit the spot. Still, quite the car.

Considering he has it mounted on the step lip, and super stretched, it's more like fitting a 265 or 275 super stretched on a 12. While the 19" lip would still run some issues, he's made it 100x easier on him self because he could never have run 305/35/19.

The flares are fit fairly well for being from a completely differet car. However random emblem notch, and case cap, rear bumper junction are all jarring. Add that to the jarring wheel and tire set up and I've been jarred out of liking it.

Honestly. Not so much the Gen3 hatch for me just yet, but yea. I can't wait for a couple years down the road where it'll be more common to see these things modded/bagged nicely.

Good gawd that is hotness.
I'm tempted to buy a mz3 sedan now lol. Any idea what body kit that is/how he got exhaust pipes?

Agreed.
Nope, haven't dug into that yet, but I do see a lot of people asking the same questions. Must be some new kit, or possibly even a one-off kit.

Yea I have noticed that from time to time. Would rather them just not go as far like you said.

how far could I realistically pull my fenders?
Supposing I didn't care about buckling etc, but just wanted to run the widest set up possible

I'm thinking for the track here but since the discussion came up....why not

Physically... 1 1/4 maybe 1 1/2, gunna buckle. But you'd be better off with a clean cut than an ugly pull and buckle

you're talking flares now
because I'd also want my rear camber, and front too for that matter, to be closer to zero to maximize road contact
I'm just gonna have a chat with Mr Wilson

Buckle ****s up your fenders 100% and looks ugly. A clean cut would do much less damage. Don't even need to add flares lol.
I'm just talking as in hoodrat shit. Which is pretty much what you're considering if you are willing to run buckled fenders for width

As to what you can fit, depends on how low and how stiff your suspension is. Assuming race height, perhaps a 255 on 9/9.5. 0 body lines left, just literally pulling to fit wide shit.
Wide rims would do you less good than a low offset 8.5 and 235/245 tho as far as weight goes

This type of stuff ruins my life and is why I air on the side of "conservative" its also why I bought a truck that I want to leave mostly alone aesthetically.
loki how wide of a tire/wheel combo are you looking to fit?
The buckle you see there could be combination of pull and weight on the quarter aired out (ask me how I know). Without seeing it aired up it is hard to say but if I air out on funky ground the body of my car starts to protest so I have to be mindful.
However when we were pulling my fenders you could see it start with the pressure of the roller as well so we backed off.
Dave, I'd like to run a 17 x 9.5 with a 255 tire
