Does anyone else hear a high pitched sound on their 2010 Mazda3? I think it's coming from underneath the hood.

I agree with it being a wet belt as I would hope your belt isn't already worn out on a 2010. I also have a 2010 and I hear a similar sound when starting in the morning after rain or snow...sometimes even extreme cold.

It might be the electric power steering pump, yes they are electric now. I can hear mine ever since I bought it new and the dealer and mechanic says its perfectly normal.
describe the sound.. and when you hear it?

I hear it right when I turn on the car and stays while the car is on. Its sort of a high pitched sound as if something is spinning under the hood.

Does it go away after 10 minutes or so? Does it sound like a hissing noise?

No it stays while the engine is on. It almost sounds electronic or something spinning really fast but it's constant.

Does it speed up and slow down with the engine revs?

I Have owned 7 new cars previous to this Mazda and I can honestly say this is the worst car I've ever owned. It makes noises sounds like a diesel engine (wining noise when you accel). Mazda gives you a Bose radio for a reason.
Im just going to wait until my first year is up and then sell it.

You can fix the whining by adding ground wires. Agreed though; this car makes lots of noises; this is a well known fact!

I thought you had to sell it cause you were 'moving away and didn't need it anymore'...at least, that is what you posted a long time ago.
In any case, we get it... You think you have a lemon and you hate the car. Sorry to hear, but constant whining on here and stupid posts about class action lawsuits over potential bugs in the BT functionality, are really not going to endear you to many people.

I have a 2010 and I hear this noise too, some type of high pitched noise in the engine bay.
Even after I turn the the car off, the high pitched whine stays on for a few more seconds, possibly up to 10.
It doesn't really bother me unless it is a problem. I always thought the sound was attributed to how the car was designed, and not faulty parts. Someone correct me if I am wrong

That whine after you shut down the car is your fuel pump. It's normal.

1. Mazda3 from the beginning have had electric power steering pumps (slightly louder in low ambuent temp)
2. After you shut the car off you might hear a "humm" from the engine bay from one of two things. First the throttle body does a "diagnostic" sweep after the car is shut off and secondly you might hear excess pressure blead back through the air conditioning system.

I've only notice the whine on my '10 when starting up in the cold. When I first purchased it in August I never noticed.
So for that, I'm thinking wet belt from the cold? Could be electric steering pump. Tomorrow when I get to school I'll get out and listen before turning off the car after a 15min drive warm up.
