View Full Version : MX-5 wheels on 3???
Hey guys,
Has anyone attempted to fit MX-5 17" rims onto the 3?
Only reason I ask is because the OEM rim is 4-5lbs lighter than the OEM wheel that comes on the 3.
Thanks,
Chris

Its been "overplayed" by members of M3F. Do a search there and you'll be able to find pictures and comments.
I personally don't like the look since the spokes are too skinny, I like a little meat on my rims. But I'm sure you want them for performance and not looks.

Only 3-5 people have done it that I've seen. I almost grabbed a set, but alas, they were gone about 2 hours before I sent the email....

Sweeeet. I really like the look of these wheels. Anyone know the details, which year Miata they are from?

Just had to revive this thread.
I am seriously considering these babies for my 2010. Anyone have any pics of what it would look like on a white 2010? Any fitment issues? I know that it has a 45 offset, which means it will stick out more - is it going to be drastic?
From the official specs sheet, stock Miatas come with 205/45/ R17 tires. My current 2010 has 205/55/16 stock. Anything I should look out for? I'm completely noob to this tire/rim thing. I'll go read more and educate myself in the meantime. :)

There's also these rims that came from a '06 MX-5.

Hmm, i wonder how any of these would look on a speed3. I just moved to Ontario and cant believe how terrible the roads are here compared to BC. The ride is so rough with the 18s, I'm considering going down to 17 for sanity sakes.
Are the MX5 wheels rated high enough to accommodate the weight of a 3 hatch?>

Great question. Any confirmation on this?
If other people are doing it, it must be ok, lol

The backside of the wheel should have the max weight stamped. Maybe a browse of eBay can figure it out. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't support the weight of the mz3 hatch. There's some mazda5 wheels that don't look too bad, they'd work for sure

^ How much do the mazda5 rims weigh?
Anyway, if anyone wants to check out the fitment of the Miata rims on their 3, I've got this calculator filled out:
http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp?item=Wheel-Tire%20size%20comparer&showRim1=1&showTire1=1&sw1=205&ar1=55&bd1=16&rd1=16&rw1=6.5&et1=50&showRim2=1&showTire2=1&sw2=205&ar2=45&bd2=17&rd2=17&rw2=7.0&et2=55&text1=&text2=
Any updates on whether the rims can support the weight of our cars? I tried asking a ebay vendor, but they said they don't have the specs.

The MX-5 rims look pretty decent. I love OEM rims and might have to switch it up again lol :chuckle

Oh man...I finally got off my ass and used photoshop for the first time.
And this...this is what my car may look like a year or so from now:

This should be pretty close (although I have a GX). I think I am hard now.
If anyone has time to kill, I'd appreciate it if you can photoshop the rims to 1) gunmetal and 2)gold/bronze. Either way, this color looks KILLER already.
