that's the problem with unionized labour forces, a lot of the regulations and workers rights make it very difficult to discipline workers or get rid of them outright the burden of proof/and the process is difficult

The difference being however is that in the private sector you can be fired for this type of behavior. In the public sector you have to commit nearly commit a criminal act to be fired.

Just some added information. The person in question was tracked down and interviewed on CFRB this afternoon. While he acknowledged that has a few medical conditions and that his doctor is playing around with medication strength which may cause drowsiness he apologized and felt embarrassed by the whole situation. He took responsibility for the situation and wished people would put the situation in perspective because there were more important things to be concerned about in this world.

^^^ I really do feel for the guy on some level - he, and a few other dozers/movie watchers have been the face to an otherwise faceless, inefficient, bloated, and irrelevant organization. It's a lot easier to hate on someone than a transit commission.



Thaaaat said, I continue to stand by my statement that current unions are no longer relevant - they serve only as an extremely costly impedence to quickly adapting in a changing world. Relics of a once bourgoise-like labour market, current labour laws no longer allow for the shoddy mistreatment of workers. Where is the preferential treatment for all of the non-unionized workers? I hate to offend and rant, but it really makes my blood boil when there is so much inefficient use of our population as a financial resource...

Just look at what's happening to the CAW - Now, a natural movement towards contracting and non-permanant positions to accomodate for the costs the union mandates. Someone who's done a terrible job buffing windsheilds on the assembly line for 25 years is guaranteed a rediculous salary, while new-graduate-Jimmy is forced to settle for a $12/hr contract-only position doing work 10x harder.
