Has this ever happened to you?

I have a knot at my back, and when pressed, and moving my left shoulder it kills!

My tendon on my bicep feels teared to..

Going to my physio to see what he can do.. *as i am typing this i feel pain on my bicep*

your rotator cuff? what motions does it hurt in? upward rotation, downward rotation, abduction, adduction rotation of the humerus? when did u start experiencing the pain? and what where u doing that caused this pain?
lets see if i can put my athletic therapy classes to use

Rotator Cup or cuff.. unsure what it is..

When I flex my bicep doing a butterfly curl motion. its a sharp pain on that muscle.

While in currently in a fetus position and my left hand reaching towards the computer typing i feel pain in my back shoulder

It happened 3 weeks ago.. I thought nothing of it. Then 2 days ago I was outside doing work and trying to open a cabinet i felt this sharp pain towards my arm. Went to the walk in and said I tore muscle.

Tonight i went to see my friend who is a doctor and said it could be a knot and stretched rotator cup.

It hurts when poking my back near the shoulder, and me turning my shoulder (like im huggingmyself)

thanks man!

yeah it sounds like you've got a knotted muscle probably sub scapular I'm thinking rhomboid, and that's probably putting pressure on one of the nerves that runs through there. The pain in the bicep could be related or it could be some tendonitis in the bicep tendon. What were you doing initially 3 weeks ago when you hurt yourself?

LOL guys not to thread crap here....but it seems from RJ's first post he's not well informed about human physiology (which most people aren't, including me). By asking him questions like: abduction, adduction rotation of the humerus.....or a possible sub scapular I'm thinking rhomboid ....is not only confusing him, but probably other people that are reading this.

Don't get me wrong, trying to use what you learned in school is great, and I do that too, but in this case its probably better RJ goes to a professional to get a professional opinion. Specially in the case of health matters.

Hope you get the problem fixed man, shoulder pain blows, and I know first hand....gl

+1.

An MRI will probably need to be done to see if anything is really bad. A torn ROTATOR CUFF needs to be fixed through surgery I think. It's not something that re-heals on it's own, at least I don't think. My father had to have his fixed because it was torn really badly. It's definitely something you don't want to let go as it will only get worse.

yes and no, there are times when you can just rehab alone to take care of it, depending on whether it is a full on tear or just a sprain. I've had shoulder and knee issues, for the knee I had to have it scoped, but the shoulder rehab and strengthening was enough

^^ agreed, as i have has a sprained rotator cuff before...and all i needed was self rehab...but go see a professional to determine that

Thanks guys... The second post about abduction I thought I was reading it wrong :chuckle.

Update... its inflamation on the whole shoulder as well as the rotator cuff.

Its basically tendonitis.. (if I spelt it right) I must have done something for this to cause it. (All I can think of is a shock when hitting the sidewalk with my shovel pushing snow)

No need for anything special, just as Bubba stated physiotherapy / rehab.

Thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it!

You went snowboarding recently, did you fall a lot?

You went snowboarding recently, did you fall a lot?

Well.. It was painful 2 weeks before snow boarding.. I just ignored it. But yes I was glad I had a helmet as I fell hard and hit the back of my head.

I only fell 3 times. Again it could have been the reason, as I didn't stretch and I haven't boarded for almost 6 years.

Thanks for the recurrence hahaha.

The rotator cuff being torn can mean a lot of things.

Nothing sucks like not having everything intact in one shoulder or both.

Crashing sportbikes is what I do best! This summer in my first and only crash of the year (because I was out of commission for most of the summer) I broke my right scapula (into 3 pieces) 2 right ribs, my left thumb and punctured my right lung. I'll tell you this...GO GET SOME PHYSIO...and KEEP GOING AFTER YOU THINK YOU ARE FINE cause you're NOT.

I am still not 100% right yet, but the most annoying injury is still my left thumb....I tore so much crap in my left hand, that it is really hard to get it right again. My left shoulder I screwed up in September of the year before. It still bothers me also.

My bad, I should of been more clear in describing the motions, I'm sorry if i seemed confusing to anyone, and i completely agree that he should always consult a health professional for any injury so they can physically diagnose the problem.
Its good to hear that it was just tendonitis and nothing too serious

what i was trying to say was that your rotator cuff consists of 4 muscles which are
- supraspinatus (which helps bring your arm up when its by your side to straight out like if you're measuring your arm span)
- infraspinatus (which is basically used for bringing your arm outwards like the motion used when opening your arms when giving a hug)
- teres minor (which is used for bringing your arm outwards like giving a hug AND brings your arm down back to your side which is opposite to the motion in the supraspinatus)
- subscapularis (which helps bring the arm inward, so giving a hug and bring the arm downward and back to your side like stated in teres minor

So from what you said, it hurts when you bring your arms in which could be an injury to the subscapularis or other muscles that do the same motion which include muscles in your shoulder joint, and since the doctor or physiotherapist said you have tedonitis in the shoulder area it basically means that their is inflammation of tendons between the top of the humerus (arm bone) and the tip of the shoulder. What probably happened was that you injured the area a couple of weeks before, and the tedons started to swell which then caused the tendons to be pinched between bones and the constant use of those muscles causes more rubbing with the already inflamed tendons which makes the swelling even worse until its unbearable.

Also if you where wondering why your biceps hurt its because your biceps also originates from your scapula and when you flex your arm the tendons rub along the bones causing more pain in that general area.

The number one rule with tedonitis is rest that general area, and remember if a certain activity hurts, don't do it. Also ice the shoulder, this can help relieve some pain and stop the swelling, Also physiotherapy / rehab will help strengthen your shoulder so you can regain your original range of motion. Also taking anti inflammatory drugs like advil or motrin will help with the pain and it can also reduce swelling in the tendons.

Just remember next time to take it easy if you injure yourself, even if you think its just a small pull, one thing can lead to another.

Hope this helps.
