Hello All,
I would like to see us expand our charity work from food drives (which have been great and sucessful) to other avenues.
As we are the Toronto Mazda3 club, i would like to see the charites benefiting the city and GTA but i think there are lots of worth while causes outside of that also. (i.e. Haiti)
I want to put together some charity work for us in the springsummer time.
my initial idea was habitat for humanity, getting a team out to build on a few occaisons. however, some friends recently did it and they said that it wasn't a terrible well run organization.
i also would love to put together a team of people who would like to volunteer at a hospital (sick kids for example) on a weekly or biweekly basis over the summer time.
i just wanted to have some thoughts from other members, as to what they would like to see done or what they would like to do.
also if you think you would be interested in participatinig in some sort of event or another, post up so we see the interest.

Volunteering at a hospital sounds kinda cool. Wait, it wouldn't involve changing bedpans would it lol

I volunteer here and there at the daily bread food bank in Etobicoke - that'd be a pretty good venue, doesn't require a huge time-commitment.

I'd be down for whatever and wherever. Always interested in doing volunteer work. Whether it's a hospital or food bank, count me in Alex :)

it was recent, last weekend or the weekend before, i think jan 30, it was a site in scarborough.
to elaborate on what they were saying
they felt like they were standing around a lot and not really doing much to help with the actually building of the house.
they had like 10 people doing floor boards for like 8 hours.
none said it was very bad, but i want a bit more active involvement if possible.
i take it you had a different experience with or are associated with HfofH?

what do people thing about having a a series of different charity events this summer, to see what we like, what feels like it is having the most impacts and we can select a few for some of us to do on a regular basis.

The only one I am not a fan of is the car show. There are several charity car shows already throughout the summer, and we would just be diluting the scene. Overall, I would be in support of say three events to start.

what about a charity carwash, and I don't mean those little ones that scouts and stuff put out where the car is dirtier after the wash than it was before the wash. I mean like a full on inside/outside/detailing/claybar/waxing car wash. We can see if one of these power wash places would donate the facility, and maybe canadian tire/partsource could donate the towels and wax and stuff.

Let's help the animal shelterssssss awwwww I'd be there in a heartbeat!!!!
If we do a carwash like froggy's idea we can bring our pets along to spread awareness for the humane society! What better way to spend a hot day than washing cars and playing with dogs all day?? funnnnn!

sure, i think we can do some animal work also
then we go eat steaks

i suppose we could let people have the option of an inside cleaning or not, some may not want it for time and or personal reasons

yes somewhat, i was probably there if it was a saturday but i mostly do drywall. problem is is the office tends to overbook crews especially for the scarborough site.
