So driving home tonight on Hwy 401 W I went over a bump and then I heard something fell off from the car, looked back in rear view didn't see anything. All of a sudden my battery light comes on, crap then the engine light, ****, next was my temp gauge goes over the H mark, I was praying that my car wouldn't over heat, then the needle drops below the C mark...no more hot air...doube ****! At this point the car was still running okay...just gotta make it home! So, I get to the intersection near my house waiting for the light what comes next...the ABS light comes on, then to top it off the power steering light comes on, I had to crank it just to make the turn. I manage to pull into my drive way shut off the car and try to turn over the car again hoping the lights would go away...nothing, car wouldn't turn over. Popped the hood, coolant housing was boiling but couldn't see anything else. After an hour I went back outside to restart the car it finally turned over but the engine light, battery light are still on and still no hot air! Please chime in if you know what's wrong with my baby! Patiently waiting for Dan to call me!

WOAH. You were lucky you got it home. I would take a peak underneath the car and see if there is any fluid leaks.

So, this morning I took a look under the hood to see if anything is broken off or loosen and I noticed it was the drive belt/alternator belt that came off its spools. I noticed that the top spool has a dent at one side of the lip...I think that may have caused the belt to pop off. Now the car is undriveable and sitting in my drive way. Do I need to tow my car to a shop to get it fix or can it be changed and fixed from my drive way?

The hot air is a simple fix. You developed a trapped air pocket somewhere in the loop for your heat exchanger. Thus your not getting coolant through it and making hot air.

What you wanna do it top off your coolant, start the engine and crank your vent air speed to max, and the temp gauge to max. Oh put it to interior vents, nothing on defrost. Give it 15min.
Now i'm going to make a suggestion, do it at your own risk, is to while the engine it running "burp" some of the coolant lines. Specifically the two that go into the firewall behind the engine. You eventually see air bubbles move into the coolant bottle and then you know your working the air bubble out.

It was the tension pulley that seized and broke off! Parts A/C belt, tension belt and tension pulley replaced, with labour, total damage was $360. My car is back to normal now and drives better than before! Woot

Exact same thing happened to me on the way home from work tonight! Off to Oakville Mazda tomorrow to get the parts...either the shrapnel from the pulley or the belt getting whipped around smashed the undershield to crap as well. The car turned 98000 kms after the pulley disintegrated!
