I'm picking up a DSLR this week, and I'm looking to get either one of these programs. So I was wondering whats your favourite/preferred program and maybe a little reason why

I use photoshop cs3 alot, but recently I started using Lightroom and it is the biggest timesaver ever when it comes to batch processing and working with RAW files.. haven't had the opportunity to try Aperture though

I've been using Photoshop cs2 for most of my editing. I have had Lightroom installed for a while but I always keep going back to Photoshop. Aperture I've never used. Lightroom is works on PC and Mac, so that's the advantage over Aperture.

Hi

First post for me here, and wouldn't you know it, it's not even about the car :blush

(a 2010 3 GS Sport I'll be picking up on Saturday, FWIW)

Aaaanyway, I've been happily using Aperture since v1.0 was released, and far prefer it's asset management features over Lightroom's. I'm a media librarian though, so that kind of thing is important to me -- YMMV.

I do tend to use Photoshop for ~80% of my post-processing, but that's just because I've been working with it for over 10 years now, so I'm far more comfortable doing things there than anywhere else. Round-tripping a file is a piece of cake though, so it's not really a big deal to do that. And ever since Aperture 3 was released, I've been using it a lot more thanks to the edit brushes, etc.

It's more resource hungry than Lightroom though, so you'll want a pretty beefy Mac, or at least as much RAM as you can get your hands on (although 3 is a huge improvement over 2 in terms of speed thanks to being 64-bit)..

I just downloaded Aperture 3, and I like its "Faces" system better than iPhotos so far.
