I need some Mac expert assistance. I recently upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and was running Parallels on Tiger. After the upgrade, Parallels no longer runs. Does anyone know how I can extract folders from parallels from the mac side? I hope that makes sense to someone and someone is able to shed some light on this.

What version of Parallels are you running? I think you need to run at least version 4.0. Upgrade to that and you will be ok.

Check this out for any questions regarding software compatibility.

I run parallels from a Boot Camp partition so I'm not sure where all of your files are. I will check tomorrow when I am at work. I'll see if I can help you out.

I would just upgrade though and make it easier on yourself.

If you were running Parallels 4.0 and older, afaik, it isn't compatible with Snow Leopard. Just update to 5 and save yourself the headache.

Not true. I have been running 4.0 since the day Snow came out. and I don't have any issues with it, though 5 is the most current and would probably be best to upgrade to.

Yeah, I'd say check your version as well and upgrade. I'm running VMware Fusion on a virtual machine myself (in Unity mode, which is great btw), with no problems at all.

The file you are looking for is called winxp.hdd (or variant depending on the OS you installed I think).

It's located here User>Shared>Parallels>Microsoft Windows XP>winxp.hdd (This was my location anyway).

The only problem though is I don't know the best way of accessing the files. I would do the upgrade first and then see if you have problems accessing your files.

The only way you can access the file is thru Parrallels. You would have to install Parallels (newer vesion) and then you have to direct the program to the VM file.

Well there you go. :)

Thanks for the help guys, that's what I figured. I'm running 3.0 and was contemplating switching over to WMWare Fusion and didn't want to lose what I had on the Windows side. I didn't think about parallels when I upgraded as I only use it when I bring work home (which I rarely try to do) and so I didn't back up the files...hindsight's 20/20 I guess eh? Perhaps I'll stick with Parallels then.

Well maybe upgrade and then switch.
