Hi, this is my first post. You guys have a great site.
I was looking through the forums for an answer and could't find one. My 06 Sport starts without stepping on the clutch. Is that a problem? Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks!

haha really? its a safty, to stop you from starting the car with the clutch engaged. just make sure that if you start your car without the clutch in that the stick is in neutral, otherwise you might fly through your garage haha.

WHAT?!?!?! How is that possible? Are you sure its not an automatic? lol. I would seriously get this problem checked out as this is not normal. Not to me at least

Does it have a remote start? A lot of shady installs of remote starts on cars with manual transmissions have the clutches bypassed... much easier to install that way. Works well other than the "minor" problem that if you activate the remote start and the car is in gear someone could be very badly hurt by your runaway car......

how else would u install a car starter on a manual car? u need a bypass to have a auto starter...

I guess I should have added a bit more: I meant they bypass the clutch safety without replacing it with something like a forced shut down sequence or an interlock with the car's neutral switch and parking brake.

It is nothing but installing a paper clip in the bypass behind the pedal.. all it does is loop the switch to think it is always engaged.. the thing that sucks is don't over-start your car when it is running..

all newer cars have this safty feature, its a requirment. older cars back in the day never had this safty. as long as your not an idiot then you should be fine. its probably from a auto starter install.

I wouldn't worry about it... until your gf starts your car and it goes rocketing over a curb.

Hi Folks,
It is a manual and it doesn't have an auto start. Last time i had it in for service, they said that is was a safety feature, but not anything that was going to impact the car's performance. I was just worried that maybe my clutch was going...

Wha happened????
Few years ago with my bmw my gf started my car (for some reason) when I was out back putting my bike on the rack it went over the parking block it was in front of and smashed the oil pan to pieces.
User error not car error.

If you have cruise control on the car you may want to have it looked at.
There are two sets of contacts on the clutch switch. One set is is used as part of the starting circuit, the other by the PCU (engine computer). The second set of contacts (PCU one) keeps the engine from over reving when the clutch is depressed and cruise control is active (it actually cancels cruise, just like pressing the brake). Might also be used by the PCU for other things too, not sure what.

My 2009, you need to push the clutch all the way down before you can start it. I wonder if yours wired backwards??? What happens when you depress the clutch and start the car?? Also, if your mechanic knows about this "small" safety feature malfunction and does nothing, he could be liable for damages if they were to occur.

It's fine.
It's a great way to move the car small distances when the engine won't run or you're out of gas.
