this is gonna be a pretty boring trade deadline... too many players have no trade clauses... and no real big names on the block this year.... but who knows.. I've heard rumours of Vokoun... and Rolosson possibly even Huet.... but only time will tell..... otherwise it looks like players like Frolov or Torres are gonna be the "big names"

Nope, Skoula has gone to NJ for a 5th round pick this year. So out of it, we lost Poni and gained Caputi...Pitt lost Caputi and Skoula and gained Poni...and NJ lost a 5th round 2010 pick for Skoula.

nothing particularly exciting or groundbreaking for the leafs thus far to improve the team significantly over what we had

Yah, but it will take hours still for all the details to come through.
Stempniak to Phoenix for 4th and 7th round picks. Salary dump.

LMFAO...Ducks get Joey MacDonald...but then I see this on the Leafspace live chat...
3:21 [Comment From Scott]
The ducks assign MacDonald to the Toronto Marlies...LOL But true!
3:22 Matt Iaboni:
Yes the Ducks have placed a few players on the Marlies as they don't have an AHL affiliate. Don't see that every day. You get traded but don't actually have to move.

Seems that way. Interested to see how it's all going to play out in the end.

As much as I hate to say it, we (the Leafs), can't get any worse.

Very true...but a friend of mine said the Leafs can't truly get better without hitting rock bottom first. And we hadn't hit that "rock bottom" until around now. So now seems to be the time, clean house and start from scratch. Though I wish they had tanked when they didn't have a 1st round pick on the line for 2 years like now :bang

The next key piece of the rebuild is to see what Burke gets back for Kaberle in the summer when his no-trade is back open. I suppose he could keep him because his salary is so low, but I so highly doubt it.

+1. Draft picks are always good, especially #1 picks!

Confirmed, Kaberle is still a Leaf...for the rest of the season at least.
There some reports they had reached a deal for him.

Nah, all rumors. Burke confirmed that no one was interested in the teams Kaberle was interested in. There were 3 of them.

Yup, was watching the interview with Burke too. He'll be gone in the summer. :)

im glad they brought burke in, hes the only one whos had the courage to say "alright this isnt working, time to rebuild" and hes actually taking the steps to do it, its really good to see someone actually try to get something done. Theyve always made tons of money and never had to worry about winning cuz fans still came to games, so im glad its finally being recognized.

well that was quite the boring trade deadline no blockbuster deals... and too many teams that needed pieces didnt do anything.... the clear winner today.. is that of Washington.. added some very good depth players... and the Wolski for Mueller & Porter......hmmm that will be interesting.... not as many moves as I had anticipated... and if Toskala can play a few good games down the stretch.. Calgary is gonna do alright...so sad they had to get leafs players to do it lol....

I'm really interested to see what kind of team the Leafs will be in a few years, even though I'm not a Leafs fan..

relatively uneventful because of the olympics. Most teams wanted to have their big trades in before the break. Blockbuster trades (Phaneuf deal and Kovalchuk deal) were conducted weeks before the deadline. This was about the teams that were looking for that extra playoff advantage like Wash and Pitts.
As far as the leafs go, Im just happy that the leafs are finally going for youth and not washed up former all-stars. The Poni deal was a great pickup. Caputi is a decent prospect and a big body at 6'2. flippin skoula for a pick was always in the mix. Joey Mac was promising earlier in the season but at these dismal times we might as well collect draft picks for assets that we aren't gonna use. Stepniak trade was surprising because we got a bumm defenceman with injury problems and 2 picks that phx could definitely use. especially after dealing Mueller. Peluso is a puck moving defenceman but is a little undersized.
WHen you glance at our roster you cant help but grimace really. But when you look at our prospects, we have something to smile about. Kadri, DiDomenico, D'Amigo, Hayes, Aulie, Paradis, Stefanovich, etc. Our future looks bright.
now its time to get some of the excess D-men out and some immediate scoring talent in. Waiting on July for that big FA signing with our newly grown capspace.
