Hey people.

I have been agonizing over whether I should get these wheels for my car:

http://enkei.com/2009_images/09wheels/ekm3_hypersilver.jpg
They are the Enkei EKM3 series in Hyper Silver.

I have a 2008.5 Mazda 3 Sport GT Hatch in Silver.

I was also looking at wrapping them in Nexen Lexani N3000 225/45ZR 17's:

http://www.ntctireandwheel.com/tires/nexentires/N3000.jpg

I would really appreciate anyones opinion.

Thanks folks.

I like the wheels. Saw them on a black Speed3 and they looked sharp.

Why not go with an 18" upgrade though? 225/40R18's are a popular choice.

I had a set of e Nexen N3000's on my Supra.

They were....ok, for the price.

They at least looked good and were cheap. But didn't grip great wet or dry and the sidewall seemed a little soft.

I have read a few reviews and for a daily driver, the tires were pretty good. I do about 35K every year. A good looking set that feel good would be nice. Do you think I would be happy with them over the stock Eagle RSA's?

These would be a fair better deal and not so much more then the Nexen's

. What is your opinion about the tires?

I wouldn't buy those tires...

I bought in November a brand new set of BFG g-force tires 225/45/17 for $550 USD at tire rack

The Nexens I can get for $100.00 a piece at TireMag in Vaughan. I love the way they look and they seem to get a decent rating for everyday driving.
Have you had these? If so, any issues?

I've never used them....but I had any issue with cheap tires (falkens)..and the one blow on me...so now i only buy BFG, Goodyear, dunlop etc.....

Now before i get flamed about my thought's on cheap tires please rember this is a person opioion....

You pay for what you get...so buy decent tires IMO

I really would like the 2010 MS3 wheels but I can't find any!!! And even if I do, the price would be crazy!

You have the Enkeis in your pic right? How did you like them? I was thinking of going with the N3000 tires in the size of 225/50 ZR 17's.

Your opinion?

Nexen tires arent very good, as stated above. The Barums listed are made by Continental, and are a really good value in the economy price.

EKM3 and Barums would be a solid setup.

I like those wheels a lot. I have a picture on my desk at work of a ZR1 that has very similar wheel style, I stare at it thinking about getting that style for my 3. Now I at least know what to look for.

I chose the above over the EKM3's mainly due to weight as I think these are lighter but I liked the spoke shapes better than the EKM3 as I could not get myself a set of these Enkeis which to my demise were not available =/

Ah, the back wall and bay of Simply Tire. LOL. :)

Nice rims.

Krakor,

The Enkei's are nice, but dude, don't buy the Nexxen's. They are truly garbage tires. Don't sacrifice performance, cause you think the Nexxen's look cooler than another tire. Let the Civic kids do that. :)

You are right they are hard to find..but i found 2 sets...the one guy that i was going to buy from the USA was slow at reponding the PM's..and when we finaly worked out a deal he told me he would ship them when he has time..well it took him 3 weeks to reponed to PM"s so i figure by the time he shipped them summer would have been over..lol Not mention it would have costed well over $1,000 by the time they came to my door.

Then i found another guy who was only selling the rims and he wanted almost the same as the guy that was selling them with tires..that's why i gave up and decided to keep my rims that i got now

Yes that's right. The lip extends out to make it look like an 18" wheel.

Thanks for the feedback people.

I read a lot of reviews on the Nexen's and I have friends who have them and love them.
So you guys don't think i should go for the Nexen's?
What would be comparable in price and aggressiveness but still good for a daily driver?

I appreciate all the info!

The Barums will hook up just as well, and is a higher quality tire. They just dont look as nice, but tire "looks" should be the last thing to worry about :)

for a quality tire combined with aggressive looking tread i would go with the General Exclaim UHP. As i told you yesterday i have seen many people run into trouble when purchasing lesser available tire if you do occur a blowout or require a replacement. I suggest to all of our customers at the dealership to go with a more available tire.

Ok then. I think I might take Andrew's (and everyone elses) advice on tires.

Andrew I like those Exclaims. Not bad and still looks aggressive... Now you need to get aggressive with the price! Lol!

What do you folks think of the FastWheels "Tesla" on my car with the Exclaim UHP tires?
This wheel is 17" x 7.5". I like the lip on this (Andrews likes lips too... On his rims I mean!)

http://www.fastwheels.ca/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/0043f8bb081f323e5d9af784ccb8ddd1.jpg

Opinions please!!!

Craig - I agree. I love a nice looking setup..... but not the Nexens.

As for the Barums, they are closer to the original price, and have much more stock at my suppliers than the UHP. Since the Barums are made by Conti, its not hard to get :)

The Fast wheel is nice, not as nice though.

If you are purchasing this set up new, why not go with an 18" package? Is it price? Because 18's would look nicer IMO.

Krakor
03-11-2010, 07:38 PM
If I do 18's I would have to lower the car and that would sacrifice ride comfort. I drive almost 40k a year and I cannot compromise on comfort.

Do you think the Tesla in 17" would look good? Or should I opt for the Enkei's?

Only problem with them is... well, I can imagine them being a pain to clean :chuckle.

I went to see Andrew of Oakville Mazda today. He had a set of the FastWheels "Tesla" he orderd in for me to have a look at.
I loved them!

I am going with those instead of the Enkei EKM3's.

Now if anyone is interested in my OEM snowflakes, let me know!
I'll post pics and stuff soon.

I will be in at Oakville Mazda this Friday morning at 8:30am for the wheels install and a tranny flush.

DOH didn't get to chime in...

I would have said the EKM3 because the less lip there is the larger they will look. The lip from the Tesla's will be more substantial and your 17" will look like 16".
I still cant wait to see them though! :)

No worries. I appreciate the info.
When I saw the Tesla's today, I thought they looked awesome! Coupled with the General Exclaim UHP 225/45ZR17's they look pretty sweet!

I didn't like how "thin" the EKM3 looked. The Tesla is far more substantial.

Can't wait to show them off.

BTW, how is the kitchen? Hope all went well.

Ok people.

I went with the FastWheels Tesla rim on Exclaim 225/45ZR17's. My car is sunlight silver metallic and the rims are a hyper silver (Almost the same as the car).

My question is, what colour do I paint my calipers now?
They were black but they don't stand out anymore.

I am interested in a red (same colour as my rear side reflectors).

Opinions?

Anyone?

I had the black. The only problem is that after 1 winter they look like crap! And they also don't show at all through the new rims. I was thinking red? I think the red would stand out nicely and not look too overdone.

I'm considering the same rims with 225/40/18's . My main concern is looking like I'm driving a jeep :) . Are 18" rims with these tires going to raise it up from stock? I'd lower it but don't have the cash on hand ATM. Also what offset will make them flush? And not rub if lowered?

Thoughts? Thanks

you will not look like a jeep and your ride height will be the same. You will not rub when not lowered, and depending on offset, you probably won't rub when lowered.

When you buy larger rims, you put on lower profile tires, thus, making the outside diameter of the wheel and tire compbo almost exactly the same as the OEM.

I have 2010 Speed3 18 inch rims with 225-40-18 series rubber on it and I am not lowered. Doesn't look too bad.

Just picked these up at Canadian Tire here in Winnipeg for $126.99 for the 215/45R17s. The 225s weren't on sale but 205s and 215 are. Having them mounted on my Enkei EKM3 17x7 Hyper Silvers tomorrow. Damn good looking tire. Nice aggressive tread. Great reviews overall considering their price. They even have a protective lip on them to help minimize curb rash if ya rub accidently.
