Took my 2010 M3 Sport GT in for 16k service. I asked them to check the cabin filter, as I have always noticed "light dust" on the dash around the defroster vents. I have wiped down the dash periodically, but it always reappears. Thought that this was unusual for a car with a "Micron cabin air filter". The technician reported the car did not have a filter installed. The service advisor was puzzled, as he said it should be there. We checked the 2010 M3 brochure, and it says it is part of the AC package on the two higher trim levels and optional on the base trim.
The dealership did not have one in stock, so they have ordered it, and I will get it installed when I can get back there. Apparently they can check for it fairly easily, but the install takes several hours, as it involves some dismantling of the centre console.
If you own a 2010, you might want to check if yours is installed.
