Hey folks,

I hope someone is online who can help me out soon (I have my bumper removed and sitting on the driveway!). I'm in the process of installing LED rear reflectors and I'm attempting to tap into the plate lights. I'm looking at the wiring leading to the plate lights and there is no negative/positive identfication on the wires. Both wires are black and have orange dots on them. Can anyone tell me how to wire these up?

Thank you!

I can't remember from doing mine but you could always just nick the insulation of one of the wires and test it. If it doesn't light up then (+) is the other one lol.

You will have to do a temporary connecton to check. If the LEDs do not light, then reverse the wires.

Since your bumper is sitting on the driveway I not going to bother making recommendations as to what kinds of connectors to use. :)

So in the end, was it the black wire with orange dots or the black wire with orange dots? :chuckle

While we are here...

A lot of people use the crimp-on t-taps to connect wires. The problem is that if you make a mistake (or only want to create a temporary test connection) you have to pry them apart and crimp a new on in a different location. This is a pain to do and leaves a damaged wire.

I prefer to use the 3M 951 taps along with a crimp on male terminal. Makes it very easy to switch the wires around if needed, or to disconnect things if needed.

IMHO I hate using taps... thats why I soldered the wires.
