hey guys, i have an aftermarket set of fogs on my car, they always seem to go out, but its never the bulb, its the socket itself, it always seems to melt at the connection to the bulb itself. ive replaced it a few times before but im finally gettin pissed and want to fix the problem once and for all... they have been in for like 3 years, so i dont exactly remember how they were wired in, but i do remember that i didnt use the harness it came with, i used the existing harness in the car but cut off the male socket that was taped up under the bumper because the new fogs were a different bulb type

does anyone know what could be the cause of the overheating of the socket causing it to melt? the only thing i can think of is that when i spliced the 2 wires from the new socket into the 2 wires on the cars harness i got them reversed... .

anyway, any help is appreachiated

what kind of bulbs are you using? Sometimes some aftermarket bulbs can do some damage

+1 If I remember correctly you should be using a max of 55W for the bulb.

Just make sure you stay below the maximum wattage for the bulb. Sounds like you were using an 85W bulb or something.

35w is fog lights, the only 55w is our high beams.

you are thinking 35W as in HID's
55W is a standard bulb
highbeams are either 60or 65W
Just the reson you dont see much from your fogs is because they purposly aimed towards the ground

Gizzmo 35W is the wattage of HID's, sometimes it's really confusing when you have done a lot to your car :chuckle but anyway, yep halogen bulbs are usually 55W, while some aftermarket bulbs can go up to 85W, which needs a special harness so your wire or socket won't melt
