not true, speed rating is the ability of a tire to take the heat that comes with high speeds and yes higher rated tires will affect mileage due to it's structure.

In most cases, a higer speed rating usually means less milage. Just compare any tire tire that is offered in both h & zr rating and you will see that the H rated tire has higer milage.

The OP was talking about gas mileage, not treadwear mileage...

You will not notice any significant difference in gas mileage with tires of different speed ratings that are useable on these cars. Assuming of course, they are all properly inflated.
