Due to the nice weather we have recently had, I decided to give the car a good wash and noticed that beneath the reverse light housing on the trunk door (I have 2006 GT Sedan) There was some rust that I could see below the plastic from the light (I would have to take the entire light off to get a really good look)
I called Ontario Mazda (where I bought it from) and the guy on the phone told me that the manufacturers warranty against rust is 5 years or 100,000km ONLY IF there is a hole due to rust or the rust has eaten right through the body.

Which I think is pure BS... No car will have rust holes after 5 years.

Anyone else have this problem?
Or, has anyone had success in getting mazda to fix it?

Rust is like cancer; it will only get worse if not treated....grr

It is actually possible that there is a 6 year unlimited km warranty for certain rust problems on your vehicle. All rust claims have to be visually inspected though. So this is all jsut speculation until a dealer has taken a look.

i paid for Lifetime/unlimited km rust warranty when i bought my car back in 05, no rust yet (knock on wood). But when it comes, I'm pretty sure the dealer will find some loop hole not to fix it for free.
