2000+ RPM when starting

So I have had my M3 for about a month now, and since day one when starting the RPM reves way too high. I originally thought it could be the cold, but it is not cold out anymore. It does eventually settle down but why does it do that?

Is this a problem, or just annoying?

every morning it does it to me but then goes down to 1200-1500 in about 3 seconds
