View Full Version : 2010 MZ3 GT DRL Bulb # (w/ xenon headlight)
Greets all,
Have been looking around for some 6000K DRL for my new MZ3; similar to what r4BBiT installed in "THIS THREAD" (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?43183-2010-MZ3-Nokya-DRL)...
The owners manual says the DRL for the "GT" model with xenon headlights is "H8"... I cannot find anything to corroborate this on sylvania's website and all the H8 bulbs found online are all branded as "xenon" bulbs......
1. is this "xenon H8" bulb compatible?
2. will the "xenon H8" blind oncoming traffic even during the day??
I am not to worried about blinding oncoming traffic at night as the xenon lights automatically come on during dusk...
3. Does anyone else have any experience with this?
thnx!

^From what I've read on Sylvania it seems like its a HID bulb. Don't know how the DRL's work but looking on the site it says D2S which is a HID bulb.

I am not an expert with electrical stuff but I wanted to upgrade my DRL's in my 2010 as well. From my research you can get an H8 Halogen Bulb that is 35W. That's what the manual rates the bulb at. But I am not sure if you can get a 35W xenon bulb and just plug it in there or if you need a kit of some sort?
D2S is the "xenon" bulb which emits from the projector as low beam AND as high beam... the DRL is a different bulb altogether which is in the place of the "parking light" on American vehicles (or as the DRL/high beam on non-xenon headlights) whereas Canadian vehicles have the front turn signals as the "parking light"...
I was able to find this much out but seem to have hit a wall when it comes to the actual DRL bulb, I know i can just get an OEM bulb from mazda (the idiots at Canadian Tire said the bulb H8 doesn't even exist... lol) but i am specifically looking for something 5500K-6000K to give it a crisp white/blue look during daytime driving instead of the dull yellow/orange glow std bulbs give off.
I guess what I need to know is will the supposed "HID/xenon" like H8 bulbs floating around out there be too bright to use for DRL without projector to create a cutoff/reduce glare for oncoming drivers?
Yeah, I noticed the manual says the H8 is 35W... the bulbs i was looking at are not xenon bulbs but rather branded as "XENON-LIKE" bulbs... should have specified that.
I dont want to drop $50 just to find out the bulbs are too bright or look like ****; anyone else tried this yet on xenon headlights?

The nokyas make a H8 35W halogen bulb.
Any idea how much 5500K and 6000K H8 bulbs would cost shipped to H8R 3A6 (yes, yes, i live in Quebec... )

The Nokya Arctic white would be around that color temperature but keep in mind they will nowhere be as bright as HID's. They only emit the look.
I'll keep this to PM to keep thread clean.
Thanks sp3GT, that's pretty much what i needed to know... I don't need brightness as they are only DRL, i just want a nice clean white look to them.
Will respond via PM.
