i'm potentially buying the GT in the upcoming days, and i'm trying to figure out if i should get the GT or GTS, one factor to me is the xenon lights.
i've noticed the GT has a projector headlight housing as well, so i'm just wondering if i was to install an after market HID xenon, would it be the same? (relatively speaking) eg. would it still have the "horizontal lines" when u shine ur lights against the wall?
thanks in advance.

sorry. I meant the GS vs GT.
i'm leaning toward to buying the GS, and wants to do the xenon upgrade after market, but wants to ensure the differences will be minimal.

OEM Xenons are always superior to an aftermarket kit. If I could do it again, I would have gotten OEM HIDs.

I think the lens is different or something. However, you would have the option to go with a set of aftermarket TRS clear lens.
Another plus of the OEM HIDs are the leveling motors.

I'm not an expert as other people are but for the 04-09, each had different lenses (halogen vs OEM xenon) and other items. The bulb types make a difference as well.

after some TRS clear lense thread, sounds like the stock xenon bulbs weren't the greatest anyway???

They move the height of the cut off up or down at the touch of a button. No aftermarket ones do not and will not have this feature.

According to who? The lenses do make a difference but there are other components to factor in to the equation for quality.
EDIT: I've moved this to the proper section (Lighting, Electrical & Security). Continue here.

i think you've just helped me spending an extra grand. lol. thanks for all the advice.
btw. sorry for the broken english. i've realized it after i posted it, but i couldn't find the "edit" button/link.
I was parked and driving with a guy last night with an 09 with OEM HID and my aftermarket 4300K HID and there is almost no difference. We both looked and compared and could not tell the difference in output.
I would say it is not worth the price difference, with aftermarket kits in the $100 range and the OEM ones are ??($1K).
I know you are talking 2010 models but I doubt the output has changed much if any.

It's all about the quality of the output, not quantity. Everyone has their own opinion on HIDs but personally I would do it for the extra money. I am just one person though.

Not sure if the 2010 are similar to the previous gen, however OEM with the leveling motor is a great tool. Easy to adjust the height of the HID cutoff either while driving in the car or making fine adjustments from under the hood. This is one of the reasons I went with the GT when I got my 08.5 though I lucked out that it was standard on the GT from the 08.5 instead of having to go up to the GFX.

I didn't mention quantity over quality, the light output was very similar in both cars in terms of output quality and quantity.
It is the kind of thing, everybody will find a way to prove that the $1K is better, but really from what I saw it would be a waste of $800+. If you are the kind of person that has to have OEM then sure do it, I wouldn't.

I had a 2008.5 GS sedan that I put in aftermarket HID's and the ouput and cutoff were pretty good. Yes it did not have the manual leveling feature but I never really had cause to use that. Now I have a 2010 GT-E sedan with OEM HID's and automatic leveling and I can't see much of a difference in output and cutoff. I am sure if I had my old ride next to it I would be able to do a better comparison but as some have mentioned it's not that much difference. I know there were some threads with regarding to the projector housing that are for the halogens were not meant for HID's, but I remember speaking with Dan (mcguyver_3) and he said they were better. Although I do agree with the opinion that OEM HID's are better as they are engineered specifically for HID's but I can't see much variance between them.

sorry guys, i've mistaken. The '10 GT model (w/ HID) vs. GS (w/o) is about $3000 differences. Everything else on the GT, i don't really need (a trip computer? LED brake lights? .... i rather keep $3k)
The HID in GT, however, is a Bi-Xenon. (which means, it'll be HID on the DRL too, right?) if so, imo, it wouldn't matter since it's only the DRL.
sounds like the GS it is.

Nope no HID for the DRL it's just a regular halogen bulb. Although you could run your HID's manually all day if you wanted, but if you leave it in "Auto" it will use the DRL's for the daytime.

Congrats on the purchase, I went with the GS as well. I just recently ordered a set of these a few days ago:

Who knows how long the shipping will take though, I've heard they are really slow...

i think i ordered that same set ages ago.
so far, they have lasted longer than the set of prolumen's i first got. (im at about 15 months with no problems now)
shipping wasnt that long. kinda expensive tho. duty and customs was about $40 ish?
all in all, i paid $100 ish for em. still cheaper than the $300 i paid for the prolumens.

on that set, is it wise to go for 55w 6000K? (i'm willing to sacrify some light output for a bluish tint)

stick to a 35W kit. The 55w kits put a lot of strain on the electrical system.

oh? i was reading the owner's manual and i thought i saw the headlight is 55w. i guess there's a difference when installing these HIDs?

I've read that a 35w HID bulb is the equivalent of a 55w Halogen bulb. The 35w HID will still be much brighter than a 55w Halogen though.
