Hello,
So I checked out Mazda Handsfree and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is not compatible for bluetooth audio playback.
WHAT. A. LETDOWN.
My question is, is it something to do with the Mazda Bluetooth system...I mean will future phones also have bluetooth playback issues? Or is it something to do with Sony Ericsson?
Btw, bluetooth calls work flawlessly.

bring the car to the dealer and get them to replace the bluetooth module with an updated one, under warranty

Really?
Is there a new updated bluetooth version?

I have a 2010 M3 and I have the same problem with the audio playback not playing from my new X10 even though the bluetooth icon on the phone saying that the sound is being outputting.
But mine doesn't even work for a phone call either.
The phone rings, the car tells me incoming call and I pick up using the button on the steering wheel, but the sound doesn't transfer to the audio system. I have to grab the phone to talk.
It's sad when my older 2007 Samsung Blackjack2 with windows mobile 6.1 could do all of this before.

Wait till Android 2.1 is released for the X10. Might fix your problem...I still think this phone was an EPIC fail, launching it with 1.6, idiots.
bluetooth doesnt work on android 1.6 i had an android phone and the bluetooth would work for calls only. My blackberry would allow me to change songs via the steering wheel controls. My iphone only allows playback of audio. Bluetooth is a tricky thing i suppose

Bringing update to this old thread. I had hopes the 2.1 update would enable the Audio streaming BUT instead it no longer even pairs with Mazda 3.

try repairing your firmware
i couldn't connect on nordic firmware, or when I updated to Rogers. Only after I repaired my firmware through PC companion could I connect to my pioneer deck again

I upgraded to 2.1 and it works.
2010 Mazda 3 GS (purchased in March '10)
Using official Rogers branded firmware updated via SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) [but using PC Companion should be the same as well]
I have successfully paired and connected without any problems. I can answer/decline telephone calls using the steering wheel controls and speak through the system.
I use Mixzing as my music player and it BT streams the audio to the car (But I can only Skip songs using the phone, not the car controls). When I turn off the car and BT audio is playing, the music on the phone stops as well, but won't start automatically when the I turn the car on and it has linked. I have to start the music player manually.
I wonder if another music player allows better integration with controls. I'll have to test that out.

Thanks for the info, I have an Xperia X10 too and I got pretty disappointed when back on 1.6 i tried to simultaneously play music and leave bluetooth on for calls as neither seemed to work. I have yet to try it on the 2.1 but this info is relief haha :)
So does the default music player allow for bluetooth audio or using bluetooth for calls and music player at the same time now?

I'm not sure about the stock media player, But with Mixzing playing my songs and adjusting the settings within Mixzing I can confirm the following occurs:
1. Phone BT on, start car, music automatically starts and plays thru car audio system (with car set to BT Audio of course)
2. Turn off car, music automatically pauses.
3. Can control next/last songs using car steering wheel controls
4. Music pauses during incoming calls. Able to answer to using steering wheel controls.
