I have been having this problem for a few month, when ever my car is on uneven surface, even the slightest bump I will hear a rattling sound from the back, almost sound like 2 thin metal bouncing off each other due to the oscillation from the bumps. Its pretty annoying when I have window closed, and music off, but if i open window and put on music the noise from outside and music over comes the annoying noise, so that is how I survived for the past few month, but it still bothers me knowing there is something wrong

What I know is, it is not inside the trunk that is rattling because I have checked all the parts and every thing is secure, it is also NOT the suspension or brakes because I have been hearing this sound since a few month ago and my spring/shock/rotor/pads are all brand new and have been on the car for less then a month.

The car has only 87K on it, so I don't know what the problem can be, but a mechanic did tell me that my rear sway bar links are lose, but I don't know if this is the problem, I am also thinking if it might be handbrakes cables rubbing against something?

Anyone had similar problem? Any insights?

Thanks in advance =)

Try getting the endlinks tightened and see if that's the problem.

I've got a rattle, it sounds more like a clunk, i only hear it at slow speeds when going over a bump or turning. it seems like it is coming from the trunk as well, i took it to oakvile mazda and . they could not diagnose it! They checked my suspension, my end links and said everything is ok..

im just as stumped lol i wonder if my issues is the same as yours. my car only has about 45,000km on it 2008.5

Probably not the same issue. I'd put money on the OP's endlinks being the problem.

i would get a friend to drive then seat in the back and try to listen where the noises are. my experience is a broken clips above the rear glass

check your rear 3rd brake light and check your brakes. I ha simular problem and the mechanic at mazda forgot to put in the spring for my rear brake, so my pad was bouncing around.

My car has been rattling over the last few months, finally too the time to look for it today. It happened to be a loose bolt inside the trunk at the top where the shock connects to the car. Had to remove the trunk lining to get access to it. The nut(14mm socket) is hidden you only see the tip of the bolt.

so endlinks and the rear sway bar links are the same? Maybe time to upgrade to aftermarket RSB? Would it make the problem go away if it was really cause by the RSB links? thanks
