Hey guys,
I have a 05 automatic hatchback and I just notice a little problem.
When I accelerate, when the gear change from 1 to 2, there a unsmooth jerk during the transition. It only happens from 1 to 2 gear , from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 nothing is wrong with it.
I was wondering if this is a serious problem and should I fix it ? If so how much would it cost around?
in addition, if you drive and once u stop for red light, is it good to shift ur gear to neutral? i think i read somewhere is good for the gear and conserve gas?
But does the constant shift in gear damage the transmission?
Basically is it worth doing?
Thanks for the help =)

If I drove automatic (which I don't) I wouldn't shift into neutral at red lights. Maybe into park if it's a long light or something like that, but not neutral...It's an automatic tranny and I wouldn't have too much faith in it functioning properly if I am always shifting in and out of gears.
I love seeing auto cars try to mimick being standard on hills and stuff, I get a kick out of seeing noobs ;)

There is a tsb for shift shock. Try looking it up and see if your vin falls in the range that is affected.

Try to reset the ECU, it might help smooth it out. Read in this thread (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?33824-Auto-Transmission-Jerking)

thanks guy for the help, I called MOT today and they said it could be any kind of problem, however if you want to get the PCM flashed it would cost 110 + taxes.....
So ya, doesnt seem like the gear change really affect anything and when the car warms up the problem is less,
So you guys think i should get it flashed? cause this wont guarantee that the problem will go away...sigh..

Pretty sure the update is free of charge, my car was out of warranty but they did it anyway.
I wouldn't pay for it though, you get used to it eventually. Your driving style will change and you learn to accelerate differently so the jump isn't so bad. I had a CX-7 as a loaner for a week and it did the exact same thing.

ohhh right ok if it's the 5 year warranty it was covered under then maybe I did have some left at the time... I can't remember now hahah, either way it went right back to the way it was. So definitely not worth it.
Good luck figuring out how to drive your car all over again! :chuckle
