The title says it all, has any one experienced this, this is the third time it's happened to me in the lsat three months.
My car will shut down automatically while while in drive found it to happen when I turn from all three experiences and will restart 4-5 seconds later on it's own, and resume driving again.

any help would be appreciated thanks
Dean.

Need more info...

Did all of the lights on the dash go out? Or did just the motor stop?

yes everything went off, then it restarted by itself.

ahhh weird really??? Well the answer is quite obvious. Your car is haunted.

I agree it most likely is haunted. Shutting down could be anything........but restarting on its own?

If not haunted, do you happen to have a remote starter installed?

I vote for loose negative terminal lug. Check to see if it needs to be tightened. Did you install anything recently?

Yup. Or possibly broken ground strap or other connection at the alternator, but I think in that case the battery would carry the load so the car shouldn't shut off like that......

Its probably your battery terminals. Make sure the terminals aren't making contact with the body or anything else. This happened with my Acura EL a few months ago, turns out the battery wasn't installed into its base properly.

I've had this happen four times since I purchased my 2010 Mazda3 new in April 2011. Twice backing out of my driveway, once doing 105km/h down the 427 :( and again yesterday - 75km/h on Airport Road.

It's been to the dealership twice, they can't find anything wrong. No codes recorded either.

The sequence is the same every time:

- big shudder as the engine goes dead
- immediately all electrics go dead and the gauges go to zero
- almost immediately - not enough time even to realize what is going on and react - the engine restarts with a second shudder
- electrics and gauges spring back to life
- car continues on as if nothing ever happened

I will check the battery terminals as suggested above and report back. Thanks for the tip.
