Hey there, I bought a 2010 Mazda 3 GS last fall, and I've driven it about 4500km. I've been loving it thus far.

Well on Sunday, all that love turned into worry. I got into the car and it smelled like gasoline, a few moments later the engine light turned on. To make matters worse, as I drive and I pop the car into neutral, the RPM takes about 5 seconds to decrease to 1000RPM, as it still hovers around the RPM before I shifted to neutral. This is worrying, even as I'm coming to a stop, and I put the car into neutral, the RPM is still revving at 3000. Not good at all.

I made an appointment with the dealer for tomorrow, and hopefully we can get this resolved. I'll keep you guys posted. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

That doesn't sound like fun at all.

Luckily your car is acting up while you've got a warranty on it. Hopefully your updates will be that this has been resolved.

Be careful. There already was one 2010 burnt to the ground. They say it was
a leak somewhere at driver side in the engine compartment.

Sounds like a vacuum leak!

I'm almost at 7800km since last fall, no issues yet.

Hey y'all went to the dealership. Engine light was apparently a faulty computer. A bug as the service guy puts it. It's fine now, and there are no problems with the car. As for the gas smell, the service guy says that isn't gas I'm smelling and said it should go away. However, the smell is not going away. My dad says it might be a leak, and he said something like freeon. I'm not sure what it is. I researched it, and I gather that freeon makes your car smell normal when the A/C is on, so I'm assuming the freeon is leaking out. Does anyone have any experience with this? I shall take my car yet again to the dealer...sigh.

When you fill up gas at the pump, do you always stop at the first automatic stop? or you still top it up after the first shut off. If you always top it up to very full, after a while, you will end up with engine light and gas smell.

not necessarily.
you'd have to seriously over fill it for any problems to occur. but chances are, if you over filled it that much, you'll foul the charcoal canister.

I always stop at the first automatic stop.

This issue is somewhat puzzling. I sometimes wonder if some animal died inside my hood somewhere.

yooo.. it smells really nasty doesn't it?
I have the same issue i think.
it's really bad on a HOT day when you get in the car.. and turn on A/C right away (or sometime you leave it on last time and forgot to turn it off)
it smells like... FUNGUS is growing on ur filter or something lol

I might go get it checked out next time if it becomes more frequent.

Hey man,

It smells horrid, and it defeats the advantage I had with the car being a chick magnet.....lol

Let me know what the dealership says when you bring it in.
