Hello everyone,

I just received my ptp fuel pump today and was a bit nervous about installing it myself as I had a hard time finding anything on it. I booked my car in to have a mechanic do it, but I have changed my mind and will now be doing it myself. I figured I would share the "How to's" with you to save anyone else some time.

How to #1:

How to #2:

I hope to get at this on Sunday some time and will let you all know how it goes. I can't wait to get it broken in and into WOT again! It's been too long!

Those are some good how-to's! I was thinking about the samething but kinda confused on how to install it before seeing these instructions
you got them directly from ptp? how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking(no customs/duties/commissions I guess?)

I suggest reading everything on it because there's some tricks associated with the install. Something about not letting the cam move when you're doing it or replacing some sleeve that most mechanics (except Jimmy) seem to forget to do. I only read it in passing so I'm not 100% sure what the issues were. The install itself looked straight forward. Btw Jimmy doesn't charge a lot for a cdfp installl...

Up until yesterday, I thought the fuel pump was in the fuel tank lol. I paid almost $800 for everything (pump, core charge, shipping), but will get $350 American back when I send them my core. And yes, I ordered directly from ptp's website. It took about a week to get here from WA.

Yes the install looks pretty simple really. I have a pdf copy of the Mazda's shop manual as well and it recommends replacing some gasket that neither of these how to's mention. I figure I'll try it myself. If I lived closer to Toronto, I would have Jimmy do it but I'll give it a go myself and see how it turns out. It seems pretty straight forward.

Installed the pump tonight by myself. I followed the directions in the links above as well as the Mazdaspeed 3 factory manual. Make sure you let the motor cool down or you will get sprayed by fuel! I removed the battery box, but not the intake system. I unhooked a couple of the lines that run over top of the fuel pump to make getting it in and out a lot easier. You really have to pull on it to get it out. Getting the new one in is also a bit tough, just use the 3 bolts to draw it in evenly. (A couple turns on each bolt at a time)

I'm now doing the break in (20 minutes of idling -- pressure was between 400-425), and 160km of easy driving no higher than 5000rpm and low boost only. Pressure seems to be good at low throttle 1700+ psi.

I will post a WOT datalog once it's broken in and show the difference between the new ptp pump and the stock pump that was dipping down to 1200-1300 psi in WOT.

nice!
so you got the pre-assembled one instead of the internals only right?

Yeah, I got the pre-assembled one.

Here is my datalog before calibrating the MAF and installing the ptp pump:

As you can see my LTFT's were brutal, AFR's were too lean in WOT, and puel pressure was dipping into the 1200's and 1300's with the stock pump in WOT.

Here is my datalog after:

As you can see, everything is mint now.... I definitely recommend the ptp pump!
