Hi guys,

I currently already have a set of winter tires. Now I am looking to buy either a set of summer or all season.

I know summer tires offer better performance than all season. But will summer wear faster than all season? What would you guys recommend?

Thanks,
David

All-season tires are a comprimise.... you are better off getting summer tires that excel in rain and warm temperatures.

Thanks Noisy Crow. But will summer tires have shorter life than all season?

IMHO, all season tires suck unless you spend the money and get a good set.

Depends on the rubber compounds used to make the tire.

But for a given performance level: winter tires tend to be made of softer rubber that stays pliable at low temperatures, while summer tires tend to be harder so they do not wear excessively in hot weather. All-seasons will be somewhere in the middle, which means the rubber will wear faster in the summer than summer tires, and grip less in the winter than winter tires (even on dry pavement).

BTW, many insurance companies will off you a discount if you use winter tires.

Spend the money on a set of summers and winters. Based on safety and performance for the season, you can't go wrong. I'm sure you've heard that all season tires are't really all season. Get a good set of summer tires and as long as your not spinning the wheels at every light or stop sign you'll be fine.

Agreed with JONJON72 if you already have a set of winters get a set of summers. Don't waste your money on all seasons. I just put on a set of Barum Bravius 2 summer tires (low profile) and man what a difference from my Goodyear all seasons. Softer ride, better handling, man am I impressed. And they look nice too. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and as far as mine goes "BUY PERFORMANCE SUMMER TIRES". That's all folks!!

Some "all seasons" are really summer tires that have managed to meet the minimum standard for traction etc. in colder weather / snow...

Like I said everyone is entitled to their own opinion. All I did was give mine. If that works for you, all the power to you!! You can not compare a "WINTER" tire to an all season, bottom line.

Key word their is "MINIMUM". If someone is satisfied with minimum, great. But don't begin to compare all seasons to winters. Apples/Oranges!
