Im confused, cause i was told I was eligible for the upgrade however, when I checked online, the price they gave me was $649/$749?

Highlights are that they have returned the $30/6GB plan, iPad sharing plans, Family Share Plans and discounted Hardware Upgrades… depending on where you sit in your contract could score you the 16GB iPhone 4 for $159 or a 32GB iPhone 4 for $269. Straight from the Rogers RedBoard, here are the details:

Return of special smartphone $30/6 GB plan
Effective July 30, and as a limited time promotional offer for smartphone customers who activate on a three-year contract, Rogers is offering 6GB of data for $30. This data plan can be added to any in-market voice plan before September 30, 2010.

Only Apple is selling unlocked phones. If you get them from anyone else they will be locked to whichever provider you sign up with.

Not saying a free case isn't helpful...but based on the options available for the free case, not sure which one I'll get. And from what I read (if it's the same as the US people), to get the free case you need to order it through the iPhone with a specific app...and that the wait times for the case are pretty long. But who knows, might get it faster in store if they offer it like that.

So, I am home now...but here is how it went down for me.

I showed up around 12AM, lined up with about 5 of my friends. At 6:30, they let us in the mall and we waited until 7:00AM SHARP to start processing people into the store.

Came the waiting game for my turn, my turn comes and I am told EARLY HUP's are not showing up...so I wait and wait for about an hour in the store walking around talking to the female staff while they wait on hold with Rogers and I wait for my situation to get resolved, so I get impatient, buy myself 2 UNLOCKED units with my credit card, and I get the Apple store manager to allow for 2 Rogers units to be reserved for me, I leave with 2 UNLOCKED iPhones and sold 1 for $200 profit and kept the other for myself. Once I get my HUP's processed, I'll sell the one 16GB to get back the money I paid for the unlocked one and keep the other one for my mom...

******** situation if you ask me.

As for the iPhone, ANTENNAGATE is bullshit, AT&T is the culprit...I've tried holding it in a million way around the antenna and I don't get anything lower than 3 bars and calls are CRYSTAL CLEAR and data connection is FAST.

I love this phone so far!

Not sure if you guys know but if you have blackberry 6gb data you can use iphone with no issues (i.e. put in any data device and use your data) but not vice versa (At least that is what I confirmed multiple times two years ago).

What a mess. I try calling a few rogers store to find out the stock level. There's barely any (probably none by now) but apparently they might receive more in the afternoon, but they don't really know for sure.
I went to one store and it was so disorganized. People were arguing on who's next, the rogers system was so slow and didn't seem to work properly, people complaining that they're were not being offered the right deal etc...
After waiting for 20 minutes I left. Maybe I'll stop by after work and see if it got any better.
I was excited to get a new phone today, but at this point it's not really worth the trouble. I'll wait till next week to hopefully get it.

I went by the Yorkdale Apple Store after work in the hopes of picking up a Magic Trackpad.

As I approached the doors I noticed a large crowd of people outside of the store. I asked one of the blue shirted Apple advisors about purchasing a Magic Trackpad, she told me that I would have to line up, but thankfully in the shorter line. When I got to the front of the line I asked the advisor how long the people in the iPhone line had waited (thinking a couple of hours at the most), but she asked one person in line and he said "about 10 hours". WTF? It seems that the people who lined up last night starting at 10pm were given tickets at 7am this morning and their name was put on an iPhone. I had to wait about 20 minutes to be escorted inside the store to purchase what I came for. An advisor blamed the "10 hour wait time" on the limited number of staff and the Rogers activation system that crashed or was dog slow since the morning.

After looking further into the Roger's promotion it became less and less appealing to me. On top of the plan rate, you will also have to pay an extra $20 in order to use/enable the "data sharing" between you two devices. Essentially the $30/month plan becomes a $50/month plan on top of my voice plan.

I guess if were going to use the cellular data more often this would be a good deal (6GB vs 500MB a month).

Honestly, it wasn't just about the phone. It was the experience too, for me, I was with 5 friends and we had a lot of fun just waiting and playing games and smoking Sheesha =P (in line lol).

Also, the phone is amazing. I've had iPhone 3G, 3GS and BlackBerry 8310, 8900, 9000 and 9700. This phone by-far beats all of them hands down. I worked in cellular up until May, and sold many Androids, BlackBerry's and iPhones. The Android platform is great and all, but it just seems all over the place in terms of design and software. There is no consistency.

I really wanted to go with an Android device, but I wandered into the mall on Friday and ended up walking out with the new iPhone. We just don't get the good Android devices in Canada. The ones I was considering on buying are either old tech (Desire) or come from a company with a terrible track record for support (Galaxy S).

All iPhones at the Apple Store are Unlocked. When they process your purchase through their POS system, they have 3 options to select. Device Only/Activation or Upgrade, depending on the option selected, it registers the IMEI in Apple's servers and once the phone is unbricked/activated in iTunes it will either lock it or keep it unlocked.

Every time you restore the phone it will restore it and lock it to your original carrier.

I just thought that I read somewhere that if I were to be out of the country for some time that I could put my cellphone plan into "hibernation" and pay a reduced fee during that time. After looking at the Rogers website I was mistaken, the "hibernation" feature is only for the Rogers Home Phone plan. I was just taken aback by the guy's answer.

Dude, I didn't have to unRAR any files. I just left my phone downloading the IPS file overnight on WiFi and I installed it after that.

The rogers employee took a quick look in the back room, and was able to produce a 16g phone that someone had reserved, but never returned to pickup. Seeing as how it was two weeks past the indicated pick up date, they gave it to my gf on the spot.

I've tried both the Galaxy S Vibrant and iphone 4 today.

First impression is that both have similar performance in terms of speed and navigation but feels different because of the weight. The iphone 4 is heavy compare to the Vibrant and feels more solid, while the Vibrant is very light. The weight of the iphone 4 is entirely attributed to the metal construction. I wasn't able to compare them both side by side, but from memory the screen on the Vibrant seems to be marginally better as it is AMOLED vs the iphone's IPS.

Performance and navigation was snappy on both models, but not blazing fast, and the menu navigation and swiping felt similar. Both have similar camera and video functionality, I didn't do anything indepth since I didn't have much time on my hands. Was there just to fiddle around and see if any of the models standout. Its odd, how the Vibrant has so much functions and features yet lacks a flash, seems like an oversight to me.

For now, I'm leaning towards the iphone 4. Since, one particular app I'm looking for runs on the iphone only. I find that the iphone seems to hold it's value a lot longer than other phones, which is a big plus when it comes time to sell. One drawback I see is that Apple seems to have a grudge match against Adobe with the exclusion of the flash functionality.

Yah I got lucky with mine too... my sis and I went to two different stores on the same day and they both had a couple in stock. The one I went to only had 32gb in stock so i took it, but I just found out today they got a shipment of 16gb ones this morning.:bang oh well.

Thats because Telus didnt have 3gs from the beginning compared to Rogers, so for them to switch to 4 would lose money. Besides it was up to a customer to decide if they want to wait for 4 or get 3gs, which was around the corner

it's because when the 3g came out..it was only supposed to be released on rogerz..well in canada n e way..they had paid for exclusive contracts to stores like futureshop/best buy and so on. During the time of the 3gs release for bell/telus (same network)..they were having problems cuz they were switching there cdma platform..somthing like that.. n e way .....phones great ! but recently i've just had issues with losing signal?..could just b messed..hopefully i'll get an upgrade and just sign another contract..lol..

They shared the cost of building the network. This was much cheaper for them than building out 2 separate networks. I believe Telus used Huawei equipment and Bell used Nokia/Siemens equipment. Rogers & Fido use Sony Ericsson equipment.

You could sell it the only issue is if you decide to do another hardware upgrade next time. Lets say your BB bit the biscuit, Rogers may say you may not be eligble or will have to pay full price since you already did the Upgrade to the Iphone 4.

Yep, most of my friends have BBM. And if they dont, we do resort to texting. But, I always tell them to get a BB. lol.

Do you have the iPhone 4? Cuz if you did then you'd know that reception thing is actually BS. I haven't lost one call, let alone any reception just from holding the phone. And I live in a basement apartment where I was constantly losing calls on my old phone. It's been flawless for me so far.

You need to calm down. Frankly, she had a good point. There are a lot of people who were basically bad mouthing the reception issue before they even had it. It's one thing to bad mouth it or hate it if you have it and use it every day but it's another to bad mouth it without ever owning/using it.

That being said, while you are unhappy with it, I've been pretty happy with it. Testing when I first got it with no case, I've not had an issue with dropped calls nor any proximity sensor as of yet. Then again, all calls/testing has been done in a place where I've had 4+ bars. Testing the reception at home and yes, it goes to no service if I hold it a specific way without a case and with a case doesn't drop in signal. But then again, in my basement I have 1 bar, 2 at most.

Mileage may vary person to person depending location and usage.

LMAO oh my goodnesss, relax!!! Could you please point out to me where the attitude is in my reply? Because I certainly was not giving attitude, and merely just stating a fact... LOL!!! Maybe you shouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly? ANYWAY, you might, quite possibly, have a defective phone then, because I have not lost one call. And I am constantly using it as I do not have a land line. Or maybe your service provider is the culprit, because many people have not had any issues.

In regards to the lost reception problem, have you guys/gals held the phone in your left hand w/o a case and finger(s) across the so called gap?
I've been holding it like that for a few minutes now without a case on and I lost ONE bar!!!! Similar to Iceman_F1, I usually only get 3 bars in my basement unit. If this is what all the hype is about then I think people are going overboard. Unless, according to laksman91, maybe there was a bad batch when they first came out? The guy at the Telus store told me that was just an AT&T thing. So I'm not sure.

PS: Even if I wanted to be picky about losing a bar, my phone is never without a case anyway being the klutz that I am hahaha :chuckle

He was pointing out an issue that was the proximity sensor. What's SUPPOSED to happen when you put the phone to your ear is the screen is supposed to go blank preventing an accidental push of the buttons on screen. There was talk of some people having that issue however I'm unsure if there was a fix or not officially released yet (I haven't notice the problem myself). What he's talking about is the fact that it wouldn't register that he has the phone to his ear and thus the screen would still show the buttons to turn it to a speaker call or conference call and would accidentally push one of them while on the phone.

But I know for a fact mine drops reception alot and the douchebags @ Fairview Apple are telling me to wait till my case comes in. I should probably try another store like Yorkdale. I hear they are more competent. For example, when I'm at work and browsing if I'm holding the phone (the way I normally do) the webpage wont load where as if I leave it on a table it does load.

even with all the reports in the news about lost reception/dropped calls, it is only a tiny tiny fraction out of the total amount of iphone4s sold. coverage quality is a big factor, e.g. if you have 5 towers covering the area you're in versus 1.

So, unless you're in a low signal area, and bridging the antenna, I can't imagine it's going to be a huge issue. Also, bestskinsever.com has a super cheap solution as well.

Personally, I think I'm going to go with the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate instead, if Rogers ever decides to launch the damn thing

No one. Rogers is the most flexible for cheap plans and I find they have the best service/reception. Bell is garbage and I haven't been with Telus for 5.5 years for a reason.

I just have to get Katie a good contract now with Rogers.

You mean through the calendar? Basically when you add an event, you can pick an invitee. I would guess that's what you're looking for?

Someone can correct me but afaik you can not link the calendar events to your contacts. This has always been a sore point with iPhone users.
