alright so i go an interview with this window cleaning company called The Dependables.

Heres a link: http://www.thedependables.ca/

they are located on Finch Ave West, west of Keele.

What im asking, is do you guys think this place is legit? i just found their job offer on Kijiji.ca and for some reason im kinda thinking that its a "Pyramid Scheme" type place like College Pro. They say that i could make $4000-$5000 a month which seems kinda high for something like this. I would probably be hired as a cleaner. They called me today telling me that I have a interview tomorrow. Just i donno if i should accept the job if i do get it. i know they are selling a service and not a product but im thinking i might get screwed since its such a small company.

I appreciate any opinions. Thanks

If you get a portion of the revenue from people your bring to the company, than people are getting a portion of what you bring. Pryamid schemes might actually work for the first few people but for everyone else they typically mean hard work and not a lot of money. You could probally do better starting your own legit company since you can claim alot of expenseses and there are lots of SMB gov programs to help you get started.

Almost sounds like Student window cleaners. My brother was hired on as a "manager" for the summer and was promised the same kind of cash. But at the end of the summer he actually lost money, I think you manage a crew etc of summer students and have to buy your own equipment etc. A lot of the job was also canvasing for your own clients so basically you have to work your @ss off. Now if you are hired on as a cleaner I doubt you'll make $4000 a month I was a window cleaner as well and the job sucked not a lot of money and I think you also clean gutters and siding etc. I remember cleaning windows in the rain a few times lol

I don't know if it's a pyramid scheme or not. However, it's not that they are selling a service, rather than a product. YOU will be the one selling the service. You likely will be expected to knock on doors and sell the service, and get paid on commission. Could you make $4000-$5000 a month ? Sure, if you have an insanely high close rate, and work a lot of hours.

Is there an hourly wage involved or is it strictly comission?

Sounds like this is a highly commissioned based job. Yes you can make that much money, but chances are you will not.

I think you would be better off getting a job with a local landscaping company (think you said you would be interested in that in your last thread?). Just call up a few small local companies and ask if they need any help. Most will pay $11-$12hr to start and you will easily get 40+ hours a week.

hmmm i guess ill go to the interview and ask them a few questions to make sure i wont get screwed over. the site has no info on hourly wages or anything. not job description either so its kinda iffy.

If it's comission-based, don't even bother. I'm sure most or all of you have heard of Springmasters Canada. I'm not sure if anyone has experience working there but that place is all a big scam too. "EARN 100-500 BUCKS A DAY!!!" yea right...They send you out to places they've already gone to 4-5x and make you attempt to sell core aeration and stuff like that (aeration I can do myself in 10 minutes...all you need to do is rent the machine from Crappy tire for a hell of a lot less than what they charge). What are the odds of you selling someone a service from SMC if they've already been pushing it in that area for months? Most of the people in the area probably just want Springmasters to go eff themselves and stop bothering them at their houses. Jobs like that are ridiculous and should really be banned. My friend worked a hard 12 hours for SMC and made a grand total of 5 bucks? That's a joke...I could pretend to be homeless and make more than that in half the time he spent!

Chris, try to find something with an hourly wage because comission-based jobs are B.S.

It sounds like one of those student manager jobs promising high pay and good looking resume and crap like that. From personal experience don't take it. It a lot of hours and hard work on yourself and in the end you won't be properly compensated, if you get compensated at all.... IMO these student manager jobs are a scam where some dude who gives you "training and guidance" just sits back and get all the dough that you deserve.

You may want to be open minded about the opportunity, but be aware of the demands and how you get paid.
College Pro is not really a pyramid scheme to be frank. It's a franchise style business, so it is important you get your terminology straight. There are district managers, regional managers, city managers.

How college pro and action window cleaning work is that there's a regional manager, and then city managers who manage area codes/cities/etc depending on size and customer base. How do i know this? My best man, did this while we were in university and I helped him out a bit. It's legit. You are most likely being hired as part of a managers team.

Most of the time the manager takes care of the cold calls, booking estimates, booking appointments, making the deals and doing followup and managing your time. Be aware that your crew and money you make is directly related to how good your manager is and your "team". What you get paid is based on what you and your manager (who is most likely another university student) will agree upon. My best man, used to give them an hourly rate, but also threw in a few extra cheques here and there as goodwill and reward. There is a defined structure to how each team earns money and how much goes back to the "regional" manager, and then the "higher ups". You might want to ask for a clear picture of how that works so you know to the core where the money goes.

Like any "labor" ish business, your reward is 100% correlated to how much work and time and effort you put into it.
If you spend 10 hours doing a 2 hour job, you're still only gonna get paid 2 hours. Work hard, and complete as many jobs as possible with your team, and hopefully you are managed well, and hoepfully there are a lot of dirty windows to clean.

Some other questions I would ask are:
1. how are you as the manager ensuring that we are maximizing our opportunities and client base
2. what forms of marketing and outreach are you using?

be sure to establish potential expectations. i assume you are a student and would like to have a bit of a life in the summer while you still can right?

anytime someone offers you $4000 - 5000 a month, cleaning windows, without having to remove your pants and bending over, you gotta wonder, why isn't everyone out there cleaning windows?
