I was waiting for my wifey to come out from the bank and since I was parked in front of the window - with a perfect reflection view of my car - I decided to play with my lights
Just realised that my fogs turn off when I have the high beams on.
Is this normal?
How do I get the fogs to stay on with the highbeams?
I tend to flash on-coming traffic with a quick flicker if I spot a speedtrap.

You are legally only allowed to have 4 lights on at the same time, that's why the fogs turn off when high beams are on. Otherwise, you'll have 6 lights on and its too much for on coming traffic

Like Pearly said you can't have your fogs and high beams on at the same time, it's a safety issue. Although I can have my high beams on and my fogs on at the same time so if you really want it done it can be, its just not recommended at all.

Orange turns L and R
Daytime runners/ head lights L and R
fogs L and R
that's 6
Fogs are also intentionally aimed downward to the road as to avoid illuminating dense fog and also avoid excessive glare to oncoming traffic.
Whether they are used with driving lights or high beams, the fog light themselves should not be the safety issue. The HIGH beamsshould be the issue.

Those orange lights on the side don't count toward the 4.
edit- And your fogs don't project any useful light, so is it a huge loss for them to shut off?

It is possible to cut and splice some wires in the harness under the glove box to allow independent fog lights.

I don't know one way or the other how many forward facing lights you are allowed to run so I won't offer any binding legal opinions there. I have heard/read 6 is the maximum, with fog lights only to be on with low beams and driving lights only to be on with high beams. This info may not be accurate for Ontario (or anywhere), I have no idea, caveat emptor, YMMV, etc.
Personally, I have 6 lights on the front of my car - 2 low beams, 2 high beams and 2 bi-xenon projectors behind the lower grill for fog/driving lights. The fog lights are wired up to the dash light dimmer so they can be turned on any time the parking lights are on, which means with the low beams as well. They stay on when the high beams are on. In addition, when the high beams come on the solenoids in the fog lights are triggered and they become driving lights. I have HIDs in all 6 lights and I have never been hassled by the Police about this set-up.

If im running LED Fogs, do you think it would be an issue to do the "flash to pass"?
my worry being that flickering the LEDs on and off might not be so good for the bulbs?

Do all of us a favour and stop flicking on coming traffic if you spot a speed trap. They are supposed to be caught speeding if they are. You have a kid and you know how important life is. :)

I suppose you're right.
But I do it to warn good people just trying to go home to their family after a hard days work.
Now if I see a guy in his Super-civic weaving through traffic....
One of my routes is Milner between McCowan and Morningside. Drivers are tame on that stretch ...but it's a 50 zone. During rush hour - you can't help but hit 65-ish, and the popo love picking people off by the Philips warehouse.

It originated in Europe and has carried over here to all the non-retarded drivers. I do it too and would hope someone would do it for me when they drive past one as well.

+ 1 I do it for everyone, chances are, if the idiot is speeding enough to cause an accident its too late anyways to warn him...he'd pass you way too fast and the cop would spot him a mile away.
A VW did it for me yesterday on North Service Road by Winston Churchill as Peel Police had impounded a G35, and pulled over a few other cars. I wasn't speeding but the VW still high-beamed me and I knew what he was doing it for, and bam, around the turn and there was police, tow trucks and a bunch of people pulled over.

Does anyone have an issue with their installed HID bulbs not coming back on when you use your high beams???
