Well, I finally got around to installing my SPR-17S in the front doors today. Haven't seen many pics of the 2010 GS 6 speaker around so I snapped a few while I was working.

This post was super helpful... -> http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=158293.msg3374683#msg3374683 <-

I did need to fabricate spacers for the speakers. I had a chunk of 3/4" MDF sitting around and it worked quite well. The post also points out that they need to be offset due to the big piece of steel in behind the speaker hole. I offset mine by 3/4" and it fit perfect. Though, different speakers may require different spacing, I just happened to be installing the same speakers.

1. Drivers side with panel off. OOOHHH exciting!

2. Stock speaker. *shudder* The paper seemed so thin I thought I'd puncture it just by looking at it. Also, you can see the height of the stock speaker framing, raises the front of the speaker by 3/4", hence, the need for a spacer.

3. Back of the stock speaker. There are 2 little tabs that hold it in place in the hole, I broke one off. Not that it REALLY matters since it's screwed in. But, if it doesn't just pop out after removing the screws... that's why.

4. Drawing for the spacer. Hard to see, but the holes labeled "F" are factory mount holes, the others are for the speaker bracket. It's also been elongated by 3/4 to account for the speaker offset.

5. Stock speaker harness. The outer 2 wires go up to the tweeter, the inner 2 are for the speaker. IIRC, yellow was positive, white was negative. The pins are also pretty easy to remove if need be.

6. Passenger side door with the new speaker installed. Nice tight seal around the stock opening. It shouldn't be moving anywhere. Also, double sided foam tape to secure the crossover.

Very nice and clean install! I'm going to be doing my setup within two weeks and I will have tons of photos like you did. Thanks! This is great for guys who want to learn how to build a system properly.

NICE! I can't wait to get my system in. Amp and Cache COE8 LOC should be here on Thursday....have the JL W3 sub already and picked up a stealth box from VCP (THANKS...it fits awesome!). Now I need to pick half decent components for front, and coax for rear. Way WAY too many speaker choices out there. I'm lost!

Thanks all. I just figure the more photos to look at for these types of things the better. It can't hurt.

But WOW, what a difference it's made. I was actually quite surprised at how much better these are over the stock speakers. Noticed the difference almost instantly. And they aren't even on an amp. Just hooked up to my deck (Pioneer NAV unit) :O

The only thing is that these are much louder for the same volume on stock. lol. Now I need to re-adjust all my levels, including my sub.
Highs are nice and crisp, and I've finally got decent mid range. :D So far, I'm a happy camper.

The other nice thing is due to that plastic (it seems to be a plastic coated fiberglass material) liner inside the door. It keeps the large majority of the speaker separate from the glass. So any moisture getting in through the window will be kept on the other side of the lining. speaker stays nice and dry. A+ haha.
