Hi All,

Was on a 3hr trip the other day and my A/C fan was working intermittently. Sometimes when the fan was turned up to its highest speed (4) it seemed to blow out at its lowest speed. The air was coming out cool, it just wasnt blowing out at the proper speed. I turned it off for a few mins, then back on and it was working fine, for a bit, then slow again. Tried turning it off again and on again and it worked correctly. It seems to be a fan problem, not an A/c problem. Will they cover this under warranty?

I have a 2004 Mazda 3 sedan. I originally bought the 3yr extended warranty which is set to run out on June 28th.

BTW - Since i'm in my last week, is there anything else I should make sure they look at under warranty?

Thanks.

I don't think it's your fan. Fan will either work or not at the speed setting, so it may work on 1 and not on 4, but it will not work slowly at 4 speed setting. Does the fan noise increase with the higher speed settings?

I think you experienced icing of the evaporator core since it's been quite humid lately. It happened to me on the trip to Montreal last month. It was fairly humid outside and I kept fresh air intake on, instead of recirc, after few hours I noticed that the fan was barely blowing any air, I increased the fan speed to 3, the fan noise increased but not the air volume coming out of the vents.

I simply turned off the AC and had "free" cold air for about half an hour. I now keep the AC in recirc mode all the time when I use the AC, no problems so far.

I was in Windsor this weekend and the humidity on Saturday and Sunday (especially Saturday) was extremely high. There were no issues when using the A/C on sat/sun. We drove home from 10-1pm on Monday and that's when we noticed the problem. Is there any way to test to see if it was caused by the humidity? Like i said, I have 5 days left on my warranty and wouldn't want to miss out bringing it in before that expires.

I believe the manual says to keep the re-circ on while the A/C is on. On some cars,I believe when the A/C is turned on it will automaticly switch to re-circ.

What was the problem? Take it to the dealer and tell them what happened and see what they say, you maybe low on gas? have a leak? As some have experienced Mazda has a typical Asian weak A/C
